Multiclub membership h'cap

I'm a member of a pricey and tough playing club but noted another club about 15 miles down the road was offering an excellent membership deal. I'm an 18 h'cap and enter all the comps finishing mid table most times with only one ever win.

I know that joining a second club my h'cap should be then be linked but feel that if the supposed easier second course resulted in my h'cap coming down to, say 15 then it would reduce my chances considerably at my first course.

I don't really feel that this is 'bandit mentality' but like playing comps over just rounds of golf. We all like to think we have a chance of winning when we tee off. I thought of just joining under a different name and leading 2 golfing lives, but that sounds even worse. Any comments.

This is where SSS comes into it. If both courses are par 72 you may find that the tougher one is SSS 73 and the easier one is 71. Meaning that if you shoot say 87 on the easier course you have shot 16 over SSS. If you shoot 90 at the tougher one you are 17 over SSS. So as you can see you are 3 shots worse at the ough one but only one shot worse due to the SSS.

You will have to nominate one of the clubs as your Home Club and this is where your Handicap will be managed from. Any scores from anywhere else that effect handicap your home club should be informed.

Have a look at the "UK Handicapping System" thread which started on 3rd December. There was a lot of discussion on how handicaps travel from course to course. If you do join the other club, you can be our guinea pig and keep us posted on how your handicap fares on both courses.

Well, out of about 300 comps iv'e entered i have won once, and where a few members were genuinely pleased for me there were as many who intimated it was banditry, a few with quite some venom. So I have learned not to worry about others. Another reply has pointed out that the SSS of each club should balance things out so that really answers my question.

Bit confusing really. You want to be a member of 2 clubs and be competitive at both clubs, but don't want your handicap to come down so that it stops you being competitive.

Is there really a solution to this?

Just checked my handicap record which started in February 2002 when we started using Handicapmaster.

I have played in 879 comps since then.

This year I have played in 108 comps - 97 of them in qualifiers - should crack the ton by the end of the year if the snow stays away. And I'm only 104 years old.

Including all singles, doubles, mixed at my club thats about 30 a year. 12 old football club society days and about 8 corporate days out a year over 9 years. You work it out. Seems some of us like playing golf rather than taking the P out of others.

Please give example of how the 'cheating' works. The joining under a diff name was purely a churlish statement, as 15 miles down the road would mean you would eventually bump into someone you already know. I play in a society and they have there own h'cap system which has me 2 better than my club. Should I insist on my club H'cap.

As you can see this is my first posting but will have to bale out as its supposed to be a discussion forum. We all like a bit of banter but it seems some just like it as an exscuse to abuse.

Perhaps if you'd put a 'smiley,' indicating a joke, after your "churlish statement" you'd have got "a bit of banter" instead.

I'm a member at two courses and you have to nominate one as you home track.

I find it doesn't have much of an effect on my handicap as i tend to play more on my home track now.
still manage to get a game at my other course in the winter as they tend to stay on the full course more or less and they have a good lot of reciprical round with other courses.

i currently play between 2 clubs at the moment.my home course is here in killin at the sss is 1 under the par and the css sometimes goes up.

at the other course the sss is 1 under the par aswell and just like my home course the css sometimes goes up 1...sometimes even 2.

i don't care much about winning but between the 2 course's i'm roughly the same at both.i've had good cuts at both.i'm more interested in getting my handicap cut.

I don't know how it'll be now if the've gone electronic, though that should be updated automatically; but we had a member at my old club who was a member of 2 other clubs. One course he designated as home (his choice) the other 2 were away. If at home handciap updated automatically, at away clubs he was entered as away handicap on computer for processing and card sent to the relevant club after playing in a qualifier.

Is it really about the winning though. I play an awful lot of golf (about 120-140 rounds per year) but my club doesn't put on 100 comps a year. That is two a week every week. Personally, if you have played so many rounds and not seen a significant drop in handicap I'd be more worried why I can't be more competitive and play close to my or under my handicap on a regular basis.
