booked a break for 7 days in Benidorm, never been before and to be honest I never thought I would go but it was a bargain £270 full board flying from a local airport so me and Mrs DB thought why not take a punt. It's at the hotel Riu Park, trouble is we went on trip advisor and a few travellers have reported being mugged on the way back to the hotel. I'm no shrinking violet and quite prepared to defend myself if the need arises but has anyone any knowledge of this kind of thing happening in Benidorm and if so is it a frequent occurrence?

i went to Benidorm for my stag week, no problems for me.

i was told to beware of 'the yellow brick road', apparently thats where most of the trouble is.

take a trip to the old town in the evening, and you'll find plenty of local bars and places to eat.

for a good night out try queens hotel, (old town,) it has caberet nightly

enjoy and stay safe

Happens everywhere mate, pick-pocketing, muggings, wouldnt lose any sleep over it.

I know someone who got jumped by half a dozen russian types in Puerto Banus.

Wherever you go there is an element of risk but TBH, get out there, enjoy yourself and just watch your pockets.

i have been Benidorm about 6 or 7 times now and have never had any trouble. Stopped in Rio Park twice, is a nice hotel since the refurb. The hotel is on a path leading up from the street with some small tree's at the sides. But is well lit up at night, if you dont want to walk that way you can always walk along the street which only takes 2 minutes longer.

Enjoy your holiday there, i love the place, most bars are about 1 euro a pint. Then there is the entertainment places which charge a little more. You have to see sticky vicky if she is still on. haha

A couple of the boys from Tottenham mentioned sticky-vicky, apparently she can induce spontaneous vomitting at the drop of a hat. I told them to stop telling me after the 1st minute or so. Urrrgh!

I am reliably informed that Sticky Vicky has retired and it is now her daughter who has taken over the mantle. I have never been - it sounds revolting.

I was in Benidorm for the first time in my life about five weeks ago and thought it was as expected, horrendous. It is basically just like the TV programme with Johnny Vegas.

If you are staying there and have hired a car then it is worth a drive to Calpe. We went to the beach there every day and it was very nice indeed. I would also recommend a trip to Guadalest in the hills. The house that we rented was near here and it is absolutely beautiful.

Have a nice holiday!
