mugging compensation/cover?

A friend of mine was mugged at a cash point last week for a couple of hundred quid. I was wondering if there was a way of him getting the money back (within the law) , the police are involved and it happened at a large superstore late at night.

I would say not.
Have the police checked the stores CCTV

I think it would be down to compensation from the thief if he was ever caught but otherwise no as there is no concrete evidence (unless caught on CCTV as said)
