Hey, new to golf competitions, I have recently got a motocaddy S5 GPS DHC and during a comp anouther member questioned if I should be using the GPS as the slope can’t be turned off, I.e to make it legal to use in comps. However, doing some digging online and looking in the manual I don’t believe the GPS on the S5 has slope, it’s just plain distance. The manual says it’s legal to use when R&A rule allowing DMD (distance measuring devices) are allowed. Anyone else know if it does or doesn’t have slope?

I didn’t think trolley GPS units had slope taking into account but now not sure.

Golf trolleys don’t have slope. It would be impossible without a lense/laser and would need a consistent level parking position for it to be accurate.

Dhc is to control the trolley on slopes, ie stop it free wheeling and running off.

The other player in your group IMO is pulling your chain knowing it too.

Thanks, I understand the slope and DHC. I’m referring to the slope for elevation / distance adjustment.

I do know bushnell sell the phantom 3 gps unit that has slope, it’s not just a laser / lense thing, so this could be implemented in a trolley gps. Which is why asking as there is nothing online anywhere if the gps unit on the trolley does or doesn’t have slope factored in.

Can’t GPS measure elevation at its current location? And can it recall/know the elevation of the putting green of the hole being played?
If both are ‘yes’, then the processor could use them to determine an elevation adjusted distance, which is contrary to the Rules.

The motocaddy website says “The Motocaddy app is compliant with USGA and R&A regulations.”

GPS on a watch or trolley wouldn't be accurate enough in terms of elevation data to be useful. A quick Google suggests that the elevation data that comes from consumer GPS units is accurate to about +/- 75 feet. Don't worry about it
