Most Upsetting Goal You've Seen

Scotland Holland in the world cup finals.

We had to win by 3 clear goals or we were out and we were winning 3 - 1 at one point (Archie Gemmel genius run and goal), then some windmill merchant blasted a 30 yarder in making the task nigh impossible. Great game though and the lads all came home to a heros welcome. We love a tryer and underdog in Scotland

That was the other candidate for me. Typical Scotland almost pulled a miracle out the bag after a terrible World Cup, we were just starting to believe we could do it when he belted that in from miles out - unstoppable too.

That's the one I was thinking of. I was there that day, Gazza's hat trick - two fantastic goals and a penalty, clinched 8 in a row! :whoo:

How times have changed..... :(

I was there that day too......

Couldn't help but be impressed even though he was tearing us a new one every time he got the ball!!

His goal against Scotland would be my choice for this thread aswell. My (English) best man even brought it up in his speech at my wedding!

Can't remember whether we needed to draw or win to clinch the league but, either way, we turned up expecting the title party and you guys were looking like spoiling the occasion until Gazza stepped up!

Needed to win I think, sure big Brian Irvine put us 1-0 up aswell before Gazza ripped us apart...!

Great player, shame he had to show it quite so strongly against us!!

As a Saints fan there have been plenty! The obvious ones would be any of the (few) po**smouth have scored against us, but I think the worst was at home to Villa in 05, when Bent equalised in the 94th minute. Peter Crouch had the ball in the corner, all he had to do was stick it into row z and we'd have won, but he tried to score, they broke away and scored with the last kick of the game. That was the goal that made me think we were going down that year, and sure enough...

1970 World Cup
England v W.Germany in the QuarterFinal(?)
I was 6.
Gerd Muller scored in the last few minutes to steal the game after England went 2 up.
The Old Man let us stay up and watch it - at the end we were ushered off to bed and I cried me eyes out for half an hour....bloody Germans.......
It was 44 years ago and I still feel the pain.
Probably because back then, we expected to win or at least have a decent chance, especially after going 2 up. Nowadays the pain is much less, because we don't have high expectations.
Bobby Charlton substituted, England no longer World Champions. Part of English football died when that goal went in.
Still the 1970 World Cup was one of the best ever. England v Brazil was fantastic. It's like the "soundtrack" to my youth. Football was a wonderful game back then.

Norman Whiteside in the 85 cup final v Everton. I was behind him when he struck it and knew it was going in well before it passed big Nev. Spoilt a truly great year for Everton. Still brings me great pain.

Bolton's equaliser in the Championship play off finals in 1994. We were 2-0 up misssed a penalty, and they then scored twice in the last 12 minutes, before winning 4-3 in extra time.:(

LOL, good old Fabian DeFreitas......I very nearly put that as my best goal. I was behind the goal in the cheap seats and really thought Reading were going to hold on.

As for my worst....probably the 1970 Germany goal or the equaliser in 1996.......Kuntz.
