In a nutshell: It's NOT a par 67!

Design and condition:
This course is truly awesome, with some stunning views. Par 67 says the card. Maybe when the wind's not blowing it is... which won't be very often! Right on Morecambe Bay, it's not a true links course, but boy, is it breezy. Please don't let the 67 put you off, it's more like 70!
The greens were soft enough (possibly due to the soaking they've been getting) but no sign of being waterlogged.
The bunkers were full of decent sand even though wet. The fairways are truly lush in places and the rough is thick without being grossly unfair.
Tee boxes were fine, even though the ladies' tee is sometimes behind the mens'... they get par 4's not par 3's!

Playability:
Some blind tee shots and some truly evil slopes, but a fair test if you can keep it fairly straight.
14 and 15 run parallel, and although they're both par 4's (no par 5's for men), play one like a 5 and the other like a 4.
The direction of the wind will mean one day you've an 8 iron to a green and the next, a 3 wood, so can't give too much advice about the holes and how to play them.
Not much water, but a few ditches keep you on your toes... best to play with a member!

Facilities and welcome:
Great putting green and good chipping green. Saw a practice ground too, which looked okay. Pro-shop incredibly well-stocked, and very friendly.
Clubhouse is traditional (there's even a picture of the Queen!) but not overly stuffy - very large area(s) to sit after the round and a nice terrace when the weather’s good.
I didn't eat so can't comment on the food, but a good selection of beers, etc. at the bar.
£15 with a member after 4pm means I will be back as often as I’m in the Lake District, which won't be often enough!
