Any chance you could get off those high horses and stopping locking threads? The locking of the last one (Dodger's) was pathetic and unnecessary. At no stage did it result in foul language or personal abuse. I ask the question again, are you here to ensure a common level of decency or to determine what can or can't be read, debated or commented on. If someone doesn't want to read a particular thread then fair enough but surely that isn't your decision. I believe we are allowed that freedom of choice.

I would say they as mods for golf monthly, they have authority to lock/delete whatever they want.

I disagree, because then it comes down to personal choice and what they want, pretty sure that is not what moderation is about

Contentious threads are usually discussed in a private section only open to staff and mods. Again, if you dont know the whole truth, dont worry about it. All of these threads questioning locks etc are doing more harm to the forum than good.

You have my sympathies Stevie_r. I had a light hearted post deleted because some individual deemed it in bad taste. Ridiculous; if you had read it I’m sure you would have agreed it was extremely petty to delete it. Far worse was not deleted

I have subscribed to a few forums, but I think the golf monthly mods are perhaps a little overzealous in their enthusiasm to do good job and their levels of tolerance are quite inconsistant

Shaun, we tend to react more to threads that have had several complaints. We dont just go into a thread and wipe it out because it offended one individual. Moderators have a section on the forum away from public gaze where we can discuss potential contentious posts, threads and subjects. Your post was reported and acted upon. It happens daily and a lot of the time goes unnoticed (also why not every single moderated user gets a pm, it is simply too time consuming). I have to say that I dont see why you are upholding this issue regarding a joke about a dead person. If it was about a real life issue that affected us personally then fair enough...
