As some may recall from a previous PYB post I have challenged myself a fairly strict handicap progression downwards through the season. While its not for everyone, its my way of giving myself the drive to go and do it and not sit back and think it will happen without trying. If I don't have targets for practicing I tend to thrash around without any real direction.

So, I have been down the practice green very regularly working on a fair few things - I am measuring my improvement (or not) on putting using a 'game' I have developed. Also been working on the rest of the short game - bunkers, chipping etc and again have some figures building up for that

Yesterday it was our first medal and qualifying comp of the year and I am a very happy golfer.

Shot a tidy 5 under CSS so have dropped 1.5 shots from 19.8 to 18.3. I had targetted being at 18 by the end of June so need another 0.3 to hit that a bit earlier than planned.

I shot my best medal round and putted 'decently' so very very pleased with that even if everything didn't go in.

Having said that I am not sat here thinking thats as good as it gets - I missed a few makable putts, 3 putted on 3 greens and had a couple of holes that I messed up my approaches and cost myself at least 2 on each (a thinned wedge to a par 5 miles over the back and a miss hit into water)

So there is the chance to continue the progression - lets hope its not a flash in the pan.

I have a putting lesson booked this week and will be continuing with the new approach.

Fingers crossed that the golfing gods don't want payback next medal.

Great stuff HS :) really pleased to hear things are progressing. I've been working on my short game and putting and am much better in that department. Just need to tame the big dog and I'm cooking in gas. Keep us posted with your progress :D

Well played. Like me you seem to dedicate a lot of time to trying to improve and its great when you reap the rewards for those efforts. Keep it going and I hope you can tick everything off your list and achieve more than you wanted

Good scoring Phil and not easy round your track there's a few tricky holes that can easily trip you up if IIRC, the 248 yard par 3 to name one! Keep working at it and you'll get your rewards mate. :)

Playing there on Thursday with some guys from the office.
