Misleading????

Needing to get the dining room carpeted, and not wanting to spend a fortune I visited the website of a local firm who advertise superb prices and deals "not to be missed".
Without commenting on overall price, I'd advise getting the highest quality (or maybe just under if it's much better value) Underlay you can.

And try to get high wool content in carpet too!

That 'Delivery' charge is a p-take!

Carpet - delivered and fitted.

You've bumped it up by £100 by needing underlay and gripper rods.

Indeed, I don't see what the problem is. I bet the initial online quote even stated somewhere that it doesn't include underlay and grippers.

I have been in the trade for nigh on 40 years and I have never heard of charging for delivery when the shop is fitting the carpet. Also, any deposit is taken against your order in case you cancel and the shop is left with a carpet they have no customer for. This should be refundable against the final invoice. £6.19 sounds very odd.
Carpet shops generally make their money from selling the carpet cheap and making it back on the gripper and underlay which doesn't cost them much, but is much less competitive on the high street.
Unfortunately this is an all too familiar tale, which spans many trades, where they have to display a very cheap headline price or risk looking expensive against their competition which will employ these tricks if they don't. It doesn't make it right.
The answer is don't buy if you are not happy with the price or feel you are being mislead.
BTW. If you already have gripper down you won't need new and the underlay may be OK if it hasn't been down for donkeys. That way, you are back to your original budget of £175.

Here is a prime example of why shops use these tactics:
Customer: I have come to tell you I won't be ordering my carpet from you.
Me: Oh, I am sorry. Is there a reason?
Customer: Yes, the shop down the road is going to fit it for free.
Me: Oh, OK. How much is their final invoice going to be?
Customer: £550 all in.
Me: But we are only charging £500 all in.
Customer: Yes, but they are fitting for free. Why should I pay you for something that is free?
Me: But you are giving them £50 more for the same thing.
Customer: Yes, but you are charging for something that is free.
Me: OK. I really want to keep your custom, so I'll tell you what I will do. I will give you the carpet, underlay, gripper for free and yes, we will fit for free too. But, you must buy the door plate and that costs £500.
Customer: Oh, now you are being silly.
