Misleading????

Good one I came across just the last week or so. Glasgow airport charges you £1.50 to pick someone up - even if your passenger is waiting for you and you only stop for 5secs as he opens your car door and jumps in.

Drop-off is free (generous that!) and you can try to pick up from the same place - but most of the time there are 'wardens' moving you on and directing you to the 'not free' pick-up point.

no they don't! they do if you go into the pay car park, but if you go to the 'drop off and collect point' it is free as you state, but you cant 'park' there and if your passenger is waiting for you theres no issue, if not drive round in 27 seconds and wait again, no biggie

I guess the carpet delivery guy wants to be able to pay his bills and feed his family hence the delivery charge

He may be a fitter also
He may be self employed & not even be employed by the carpet shop

Lastly I doubt those collecting the carpets themselves want to see prices increase across the board to pay for delivery of those that need/want delivery

Well I will inform both my mother and another relative who have been charged - maybe they did park and not just pull up. I did challenge my mum on this and she was adamant that there is no free pick up - free drop outside as you approach the terminal building - but no pick up there - only pick up is on ground floor of multi-storey opposite the airport terminal biulding. Certainly nothing on the Glasgow Airport Parking website to say you can pick up for free.

For those people who don't want to pay for delivery, would you still expect it to be delivered? I can understand if you're going to pick it up, but if you want it delivered for free because "it's only a mile down the road", why should they do that?

There may be minimal petrol charges, but there will be wear and tear, and the business has already had to buy the van, and will have to pay the driver his time for picking the carpet up, getting it to you?

Or am i missing something?

They sell carpet. They offer a fitting service. Yet they want me to pay for them to bring the carpet with them?????

I suspect that the delivery charge is the cost for them getting it from their suppliers. If I repair someone's plant and machinery I charge the costs of buying the bits and also the courier charges.

It seems like it's a more clear way of breaking down the costs for you. X is to get it to you, Y is for his/her time to fit it. They could just have said fitting is (X+Y)= Z, and that would be that.

I can see why you're annoyed, but almost every business does this surely?

I agree, it's a bit like Ryanair a year or so ago, if it's going to cost £282.30 just say that at the start don't let on it's £175 then introduce all the added extras once committed!

Where did the original £175.00 estimate come from if the carpet itself is only £103.02????

Carpet - delivered and fitted.

You've bumped it up by £100 by needing underlay and gripper rods.

If you've ripped up your old underlay and thrown it away then you're going to need some more no matter what, same for gripper rods. I guess you can take a look on eBay for those.

I did go to B&Q last time I carpeted a room and the underlay was more expensive than the carpet shop price.

There's no getting round the £45 fitting charge as it's always about that even for a small room (minimum call-out price?) but I'd offer to collect the carpet or even send a TAXI for it if necessary because £29 delivery for a roll of carpet that costs £103 (and therefore can't be THAT big) is ridiculous.

One thing I've learned about carpeting a room is not to throw away your old underlay/gripper rods unless they absolutely need replacing.

Unfortunately, the ads have to cover the whole range of cars. If they put an ad up for the basic car, nobody would buy it as they would want more "bits and pieces" on it. If you came into my showroom and asked about a Juke, I would asks questions, what sort of thing would you want on it that type of thing. If you said you wanted built in SatNav, I would tell you about the first model in the range that came with it as standard, and also tell you exactly how much it cost, and would go from there.
But if you asked me how much the basic Juke was and I told you, and then tried to whack another few thousand on for the SAME car, I would expect you to kick off.
My complaint is that the actual carpet I enquired on was quoted at £175.00 but then rose to £285.00. Delivery???? Why should I pay for that????
If I quote you a price on a car, it will be the TOTAL price. I won't add bits on afterwards.
Not having a dig as I used to be a car salesman but it's never the total price is it, we sit a customer down the it's paint protection then gap insurance and then finally a bit of mot insurance, that's add one that actually make us commission.

Appreciate that, but the customer has a choice whether to buy those items or not. And under latest FSA/ITC rules, we are not allowed to either recommend those products or push them, we merely have to mention them.
If a customer says "no thanks" the £15k Juke is still £15k.
;)

Since cars have been mentioned.... the one time I looked at buying new it had a price for the car and a cut out cardboard star stuck next to it with £xxx extra for metallic paint

I asked for one with non-metallic paint only to be told that they only sell it with metallic paint!

I worked for a company that did that once. I told them (in no uncertain terms) that it was misleading, and a rip off.
They didn't listen.
