Might as well bin my TV license ........

It’s always the same when it comes to the BBC - the fee for me is an absolute bargain when I consider everything they provide - from telly shows I like to the BBV website and the radio 5 live - the £10 a month is a bargain for me.

A lot of people around the country rely on the BBC and terrestrial telly for their media , as soon as people stop paying the license then the level of programming they do will be dramatically reduced yet I could guarantee that people not paying would still watch a program or listen to something over the 12 month period.

It’s a never ending argument but there are millions that enjoy the BBC and the products they produce

spot on. The bbc may not be great but they provide a service..

for the licence fee I can listen to live sport.. watch MOTD.. watch a few of their new dramas (which have been really good... killing eve was excellent)

all for what £12.50 a month I think my DD is..

costs less than a take away a month.

Well the blue touch paper was lit. You just never know where the fireworks will go to!

I know, totally hijacked.
I was hoping to read about peoples favourite non golf Youtubers. Never mind.
Currently, my favourites are

Not about the quality (or otherwise) of the BBC's output.

Fine for those that like it but the question is why should it be universally funded?

After all those that, for example, wish to watch Sky's programming are not subsidised by those that don't.

The funding model for the BBC cannot be justified by vague claims of lack of editorial bias as that, itself, is a subjective judgement .

Social responsibility that we all have to each other - and many a mickle makes a muckle...

That is a very peculiar view of "social responsibility".

If such a responsibility falls upon society then the BBC needs to be far more answerable to that society than it is currently .

That's the thing I struggle with why should we be socially responsible to each other, freedom to choose what we spend our wages on should be far more prevalent than being responsible for paying for something that I personally would choose not to have

Fine, the BBC provide you with a service that you consider good value.

But what of those who find nothing or very little of appeal within BBC's output?

If the BBC was on subscription I wouldn't miss it if I didn't have it.
I only watch Breakfast in the morning but that's only because I can...if I didn't have access to it I wouldn't miss it.
I barely watch anything else on BBC, rarely, if ever, use their radio channels and everything on their websites is available elsewhere....
You could say the BBC needs me and my money more than I need them.

Sorry Bob, that was probably me. I clearly didn't understand your original post and went more off the thread title. Be less cryptic in your title next time so people like me don't go down the wrong path

Only use YouTube when I need help to take something apart or put back together... Would have been very useful back in my car fixing days... Much easier resource to use than a manual...

I'll try. I'll even type a bit slower as I know you can't read very fast.
At least no-one has mentioned Br**it yet..............yet

That’s fine, but why shouldn’t people have the choice?

So if I promise not to use any of the bbc services I don’t need one?

The rules are in place to cover this.

Watch a live event then pay the fee. It’s not a lot of cash at all

Just plumb it into the cost of your contract for any telly. If your free view its £12.50 a month

Sky it’s whatever plus the £12.50

My bt is £18 so add the £12.50 is £30.50 for bt you view plus bt sport

Bargain.

So do I have a choice or not🤷‍♂️

Maybe I don’t want to plumb it into the cost of my Sky.

I think the point is, you still have to pay license fee to BBC even if you only want to watch say, Sky Sports or E4 and nothing else.

This is it for for me.

Regardless of if you think the BBC is VFM or not I don’t know how they still get away with it.

I don’t want to contribute towards BBC presenters over inflated wages just as I don’t want to contribute towards
Premier League footballers over inflated wages.

It appears I don’t have a choice unless I dont have a TV.
