He has a belly putter in the bag,I wonder if he will have the balls to use it today?

He should because he needs to find something that will improve his rank putting.

Bill Haas as well has one last week, not sure if still using it this week. Didn't think he needed to change his putting, he's normally one of the more solid players.

Phil as well, fair enough he misses the odd tiddler here and there. I wish someone would shake him and tell him it's the driver that needs sorted, not his short game.

It's a sad day when someone with the pedigree of Phil Mickleson thinks the answer to his problem is a belly putter when the truth is he can't get it off the tee.

Mind you, for a man who played with two drivers in his bag we shouldn't be surprised.

Maybe Phil should read Bob's post about technology making us lazy?

For a "great" putter he always looks like he's going to miss the 3-4 footers more than he makes them. That to me isn't a good advert for a good putter. Yes he's rubbish of the tee but he can recover most of the time. But if he doesn't sink those short ones he's gone.
Maybe he thinks he's going to save more shots by sinking more short ones than by driving a bit straighter.

I guess in his defence, Tiger made a career out of missing fairways and making putts so I guess it's a good model to follow.

For me however, it's not a good sign. Going to a long putter is a clear sign that you think you can't putt, and if you think you can't putt it's got into your head and once it's there your in trouble. You would think that everytime you look at your bag and see a flat stick longer than your driver that it is a constant reminder that you can't get the ball in the hole.

I don't think the long putter is necessarily better, just that making the change forces you to practice more

I play with an amateur who putts like big Phil. Beautiful stroke and hot streaks like you wouldn't imagine.

I guess the question is; does Phil want to even out his putting? When he's bad, he might as well take a 2nd driver and putt blindfolded with a long iron.
