Media agendas - Telford Paedophile ring

Over the weekend the biggest paedophile ring in UK history was outed by some news outlets - in and around Telford around 1,000 young girls have been abused by a section of the community for (they estimate) 30 years.

Also over the weekend Jamie Carragher spat at a family in their car.

So which news story do you think gets all the headlines on the main pages, sports pages and the nationalised news outlets? Jamie Carragher of course.

I searched the BBC site and they didn't run the story at all, and why? Because it doesn't fit their agenda.

Balanced and unbiased news reporting? Not a chance.
 
Not on the same scale as the paedophile ring, we’ve had an outbreak of salmonella in the North East with 18 people affected, the source was believed to be a local family butcher and the tv and newspapers were outside his shop for days, the source has now been found and it’s nothing to do with the butcher, he contacted all the media and asked if they would show/print a piece on the outcome, they’ve declined, the butcher has now closed down after nearly 40 yrs in business due the slump in trade.
 
Heard some bits about the Telford ring on BBC 5 Live yesterday, but didnt catch the whole article and I definately didnt realise it was as big and established as what youre saying.

My view is that the Beeb demands a higher level of 'proof' than some other news media, several of whom over-use the 'sensationalism sells' mantra/agenda! Paulj42's story shows what can happen when the 'story' turns out to have incorrect facts!

I hope that doesn't detract from the abominable crimes involved in the Telford situation. The fact that the local MP is calling for an independent inquiry indicates how serious some (including me) take it.

Edit: And I can also remember seeing the Beeb's 'What's in the Papers' specifically referencing the Sunday Mirror's article and that story (with the same photo as that in The Mirror in your link).

It's not just the 'media agendas' that should be of concern...

What the flip was the police and all the other 'services/authorities' doing for the forty or so years the 'abuse' was allegedly occurring???

You said it. "Searching." It was indeed on the Shropshire pages, so it's easy to spot, if you searched for it! Anyone ever searched for something they didn't know happened?

Ah... feedback was received, it now appears on the front page. BUT smaller than an item about pork pies being removed from the RPI Basket.
 
You'll recall the Rochdale and Greater Manchester abuse story wasn't reported until after it went to court. As was highlighted earlier in the thread, the BBC isn't very good at claims stories and look for more proof................and rightly so IMO.
