McIlroy story breaking on Twitter

easier to get your clubs in a ford, I passed on a ferrari for my focus c-max due to being able to get my old mans leccy trolley and posers tour bag in ;)

Why you think that DCB? is it just to Nike or is it to any other make? Surely Nike will set clubs up exactly the same as he had itl just have the Nike Logo on it , balls will be very close as not to mater to someone of his abiliy . I agree with you as i Dont realy see the point in him moving but im sure it has been well looked into ?

Firstly, money isn't an issue. Rory can earn wherever he goes and whatever he does. He's a big draw at the moment. So, why move to Nike if it isn't for the money ? I'm sure they'll get a set made specially for him, but, that will take time to get the fine detail sorted to his satisfaction. Rory is at a point where he could be playing some of the best golf in his life. He's won his first Major and really, if he planned his schedule properly, he could focus on peaking at the Majors for the next five-ten years. Look at how Tiger prepared for the Majors, they were the big ones he wanted to win. Rory should be focusing on that. He's played Titleist for years, so why change ? where is his loyalty ? I may be old fashioned, but im my book loyalty still has its place. especially as he's won his first Major using their equipment. Look at how many other Major winners have jumped on the bandwagon and lost their way after changing club manufacturer ? Too many to list.

It's just another young sportsman being badly advised and making a decision based on £££ rather than what is really the best for them.

its a job! did you stay with your first employer for ever? why not man, wheres your loyalty? oh! you moved for more money and progression, better opportunities............ah ok

Interesting point - who would they be? Not doubting your point at all, just genuinely interested to hear who's done that.

It's not quite as straight forward as that though is it ?

We're talking about equipment manufacturers waving large cheques to entice the players they want. If Rory goes to Nike then he'll be very well paid and Nike will get their return in sales to us, the normal golfer as they sell their product based on a new young marque player.

I just think that a young player, who has made the breakthrough and gone on to win a Major relatively quickly in his career could have been a little more loyal to his club sponsor who got him onto Tour and into the winners circle.

And as for my first employer, they got a fair crack of the whip after they trained me and developed me. They might even still have my services if it hadn't been for Maggie planning for Privatisation, but hey, that was a long time ago ;-)

The late Payne Stewart, Paul Lawrie ( Wilson to callaway), Michael Campbell, Ian Woosnam (remember he dumped his maxflis to go to maruman) David Duval (Titleist to Nike !!) they're the ones that spring to mind at the moment.

Of those, only Payne Stewart managed another Major win, in 1999.

It's a good theory. I switched my driver from Callaway to Cobra in 2004, and haven't won a major since then either. :D

You are kidding me right Dave?

Here was me thinking that he got himself where he is due to his huge amount of talent.

The people who make his sticks has only a tiny, tiny percentage in getting him where he is.

To think that he or indeed any person is going to stay for the reasons you have given is hugely naive IMO.

Woosie won the Masters after he changed to Marumans and indeed had at least a couple of bloody good years with them....

Rumour is though that these were in fact made by those who supply peasants and Maruman name was stuck on them.

Not so sure Dodger Titleist have been sponsoring him since just about day dot. They MUST have been "helping" with some/all of the costs that are involved with being a top amatuer.

Financially maybe but the boy has the talent and would have got there with a set of Palm Springs, maybe a tad slower but he would have.

Pretty sure that Titliest will have made a couple of quid back in return?

Loyalty?? Bolloxs to that, your only here once so make the most of it......I personally would not think twice being in the same situation.

I say good luck to him,i'm not a lover of Chubby Chandler i think he wants to be in the limelight as much as the players, he only mentions Westwood and Clarke he doesn't bang on about the rest Ousthouizen or Swatchzel.

He had Rory dressing like an old man last season before he moved to Oakley, you notice it at The Dunhill that all his players are together playing with all the stars and the year before i think Gmac was punted elsewhere.

Good luck to him, Nike are looking to get the youngs in to promote there Golf Division in a big way so kids will play Nike.

With reference to the clubs themselves, if we believed a certain ex-forumer based the other side of the Channel, most top tour players use badged Japanese forgings anyway so it shouldn't make too much difference ;)

Major coup for Nike though who I guess will be desperate to regenerate sales following the TW debacle.

How are you or anyone in a position to judge what's best for him? Only time will tell whether he has or not.

There are plenty of players who have switched and gone on to better things and those who have fared worse. But no-one can say it was the clubs that made the difference. That's far too easy an excuse. There are a million reasons why someone's game may desert them.

He's made the decision to leave Chubby and good luck to him. If he moves to Nike, then good luck to him as well.

I chose not to believe either of them because I hope they are not true.

Titleist to Nike.... what a downgrade!!!!

I drive a Ferrari but that Ford looks nice???!!!????

lol, true.

I was anticipating an equipment change but thought it would be Taylor Made due to the CW/Adidas connection

Nike spend millions in r&d every year, they make some awesome bats now, with Rorys talent I'm sure he'll do just fine.

How will a certain Mr Woods react, to me that's the interesting thing!
