Matchplay - Same result every time - lose on the 18th!!!!

He's been having you on then for quite a while.

Take what you can legally get i.e. full difference. It doesn't mean you are rubbish. It means that the odds in his favour are reduced from about 60/40% to about 55/45%. Even with full difference, matchplay favours the lower handicapper (according to CONGU).

Go forth and take his money. :D

OMG
Just checked yesterdays card, and if I had had 12 strokes I would have won 5&4!!
And as an added bonus the 17th is SI 11 !!!
Am off to find this in print!!
WOOOOHOOOOO :D

:D
This is just brilliant!!
Not sure how I am going to broach the subject as we are good mates, and I don't want to spoil things. He does, however, take his golf more seriously than me, so he would want to play under the correct rules. It is just that I am pointing out his error after a long time!
Maybe I will play 3/4s with new tactics this week and see if I win, and then, hit him with this when he is really peed off about losing - coz hey? What are mates for!!
Not sure what to do really. :D

i would say if you are thinking that before you go out then hard to get out of your mind but very easy to get a few holes up and then start thinking this is easy and then you are letting your guard down and then he starts to win a few holes you just go hear we go again.

but you should going for the full differance in singles match play

Well, after due consideration, I have sent him an email with the link in. Tried to make it light-hearted, as our games are only friendly games, but I have yet to get a reply.
Thanks again for all the help and advice!!

You shouldn't have told him.... simply shaken hands once you crossed the finishing line and he'd be left wondering what had just happened :D

If it is frequently the last few holes where he pips you, just have a look at what his best golf is on average on these holes, then just force him to achieve his best to win the hole, if he fails, this will make him work harder to beat you and maybe make mistakes, you have the strokes so use them wisely.

Dont forget, a good match player will be very difficult to beat and you should not feel too bad when you get beaten by a good match player, one quality that makes a good one is patience.

he is the experienced player by h/c and matchplay, so the only real way to beat someone like this is through patience, consistant effort, practice and not trying too hard exceeding your general standard capability. ;)

Had an email from my mate, and is quite apologetic, and wants to give me full handicap difference next week. Phew, thank goodness for that! Needless to say, he is going down the range tomorrow evening in preparation.
Me thinks I might have shaken a hornets nest now!!

Good news mate.

You'll have to use the other suggestions made earlier to your advantage as well, now that you are on a more level playing field.
