Hi guys.

I singed up to the matchplay championship and noticed this line in an email I received from them :

"All competitors taking part in the event are responsible for ensuring that they are fully insured whilst participating in the Matchplay event"

So I have to be insured in order to play? Are they actually going to check that?

Just covering their arses.
Most (not all) golfers are insured these days.
I think it's just their get out clause for you claiming against the organisers in some way should you have a "mishap" whilst playing.
So no, you don't have to be insured to play, and no they won't check it.
But for the cost of insurance (about £35.00 a year) it seems silly not to be covered.
;)

Good point, wonder who a good insurer is and what you should be covered for?

They all tend to offer similar cover so personal choice really. I'm with these guys...

Not too expensive.
They list a variety of policies, just got to choose the one that covers your requirements.
I think I'm on the one that costs around £35.00 a year which also gives you European cover.
Not had to claim yet so don't know how efficient they'd be in the event of problems, but hopefully I never will.
I just keep shelling out every year and relax, safe in the knowledge that should the worst happen, I'm covered.
I hope
:D

Ah ok cheers Smiffy. I was beginning to think the whole competition was a ploy to get everyone to buy insurance!

Out of interest, do most insurance policies cover losing your bag while travelling? I'm off golfing in Canada in the near future and just bought so many new clubs, I'm worried I'll lose them in transit.
