Is it my imagination or is MK now a TM staff player but he still users a ping putter ? I bet TM are a bit peeved as the ping is clearly visible. Anyone know if he has plans to change ? Presumabley a staff player can use any clubs he wants when he signs with a manufacturer ?

Most pros are only contracted to a set number of clubs (usually the irons) and the putters are a personal preference. Think of Harrington who is a Wilson player but uses a Odyssey two ball putter.

He'll have a contract to play a certain number of clubs and maybe the bag and cap. Most Tour Pro's - I would have thought - use the putter that they want rather than their sponsors brand. If they co-incide then great. It may also just be a Ping grip - maybe he likes the feel of it..

I do hope young Mr Kaymer is going to settle down and stop jumping form one manufacturer to another. That's his third move in the last few years.

He's definately got the potential, but he needs to buckle down now and grind out some wins on tour.

I'm sure TM made him an offer he couldn't refuse, I just hope it works out for him.

I've always been intrigued by that fact that Woods uses a Scotty Cameron with an old-style Ping grip. Scotty makes a near-identical grip (and I'm sure Nike would too) but he still uses the Ping. I suspect I'm one of few who finds this in the least bit interesting. Ho-hum.

Spoff,
The four or five he has had in two years not enough for you DCB?

No, that's got to be just a starting point for this guy, mark my words ;)

His play last year into this year has been very consistent. With three wins within a year he should now be looking on at the bigger prizes. He undoubtedly has the ability and is gaining the confidence and knowledge of himself that goes with winning regularly at the highest level.

Hopefully his accident last year has taught him not to take things for granted.

He's the most likely candidate IMO for a younger player to win one of the Majors.

I agree with that DCB, as much as I enjoy watching McIlroy out on the course, between the two of them I think Kaymer will (and has already) win more than he loses

Doesn,t Tiger play with a titliest putter with a ping grip, while contracted to Nike for his remaining clubs?

I think Kaymer still uses a Ping prototype shaft in his TM driver too

While wearing the TM hat he did still play Ping driver and Titleist irons up until recently, when with Titleist he still had that Ping Rapture driver in play

Kaymer uses a PING Anser2 putter from the Karsten range, PING's least expensive range, it obviously suits him as he always seems to drain several long ones every tournament he plays.

Golf club sponsorship is a joke guy's the pro's get paid as advertising hoardings and put owt they want in the bag. Luke Donald last year ditched the MP600 driver for a TM R9 still kept the Mizzy cover on it though. Very rare to find someone who plays everything by his sponsor only a few do.

As has been said before, most pros are only usually contracted to play a certain number of irons and that drivers, putters and wedges are left out as they are more personal. As long as the main sponsor is getting their name from the irons, bag, headware and perhaps the shirt logo then they are pretty happy. Most will insist however that if they are using a rival driver that they cover it in one of their own headcovers

I agree that kaymer is a great talent but i dont think he has the wow factor rory does and has a coupe of years on rory. Imo when it all clicks for rory only Tiger will be able to stop him.

As for kaymer and his clubs if i was playing for my living i would use the club that was best for me and wouldnae care about which headcover i used at the end of the day the sponsors just want to see their name on the bag and headcover.

The majority of tour pros chose the putter of their choice. Not many use a putter from their main sponsor, although TM seem to be the exception. Many use Scottys or Oddyseys, but do not have Titleist or Callaway irons in the bag.
Re the Kaymer v McIlroy rivalry element to this thread, my heart says McIlroy will win more, but my head says Kaymer. After Tiger, I reckon that Kaymer is the next best putter in the world at the moment.
