Market leader and why...

Just seen TM are going to open there own outlet stores.................

one things for certain, they have enough clubs to fill it no matter how big it is....

think i will give it a miss.

I guess with cutting out the middle man they can increase profit. Wonder how many stores would be viable though...

If the market leader isn't necessarily the best does that make most golfers gullible/susceptible to marketing? And would you put yourself in that bracket? I certainly was when I started but not so much nowadays

It will all depend on what each best defines as best ?

I hope most people just play the clubs that they are happy with regardless of make or model or type.

Can't see why any make should be dismissed unless the quality is obviously poor

Think there is already one in Basingstoke or is that their HQ ?

Can't see there being too many tbh

Already have outlet areas in big clubs and plenty of space in AG and DG

What they might do is open Adidas shops with TM in it - but TM only ? Would be surprised to see it work

I hear what you're saying but how many makes models do we actually try before we buy? If our bias kicks in when we shortlist does that prevent us from trying the very best club for our game OR are they all so similar that we end up buying x brand because we didn't try y. But y performs the same and is half the price...?

Can only speak to myself but over the last 12 months I have tried most makes of Irons to see if I can get improvement - Prob only the obscure makes I haven't tried

But some as with cars will be make biased

If they put their prices lower than the retailers minimum margins and what TM would like to see their products sold at thus not devaluing them, independent and corporate retailers will just dump their brand and products and leave them to it, well they should, but could they afford to?

Interesting thread

Woods/Metals - Titleist and in particular the 915 range
Hybrids - Cobra - Baffler
Irons - Mizuno in terms of looks - TM/Ping in terms of forgiveness
Wedges - Vokeys
Putters - Ping Anser
Ball - ProV1x

I disagree.

Titleist or Acushnet Company as their really known were sued by Callaway for using patent rights, thought to be around 10 different patent infringements in reference to the ProV1, this went on for around 6yrs years and was eventually settled in 2012 where both companies under the terms of the agreement would have specified rights to make ball and club products under patents owned by the other, so, I have every confidence, if not more, in Callaway balls because at one point there was nearly no more ProV1's and talk of a Prov2 because of injunctions because Titleist used Callaways findings (patents) and ground breaking technology at that time, so that says to me that Callaway are right up their for me and if it wasn't for them (Titleist) stealing Callaways patents and using them in the make-up of ProV1's, who's to say that Callaway wouldn't be the market leader now.

I'm pretty sure Callaway get a royalty on ProV1 sales, but I'm not 100% on that.

The thread isn't about who should be credited with it, it's about who leads the market. Titleist are the most popular ball in golf- on all the tours and for the mortals. As I said, I hate Titleist balls, don't like the feel at all and much prefer TM balls but I am aware I am in the minority.

After giving McIlroy a ten year contract I will be surprised if Nike pull out

Also they haven't ever dominated golf yet have been around for a good number of years now ? Also what sports have they pulled out of ?

Would be very surprised to see Adidas sell TM

It's just something I have heard about Adidas. Nike pulled out of snowboarding. I know this is obscure but in every other sport they have a large segment of the pie. In golf they don't and I wouldn't be surprised if they bailed at some point in the next 15 years. Nike expect to be the best and market leading and I don't think golfers on mass will ever fully have faith in Nike over the other brands.
