Where are the other commentators? Roe has killed this for me, tried to persevere with it the last couple of nights but my god he's awful. It must be a tough gig to do a full commentary for the full 5 hours without losing concentration or getting tired so where's the other commentators?? If I was Claude Harmon I would have malkied him by now!

Him and Holmes and Ooesterhuis and Murray etc are the main reason why i dont really bother watching the US Golf ( when its not a major or WGC ) - just awful commentators

I must be the only person who finds him extremely irritating :sbox:
bit different from the norm for me phil, butch harmon and sir jack would be my pick in the box but that only happens at the masters and then I have to put up with ruddy monty who is just about the same as roe in my book!

Butch Harmon i think his great - Sir Jack is a legend but as a commentator and studio guest the same stories each year get a bit dull for me - same with Gary Player. Faldo is great - Howell is very good -Dougherty is getting really good but will always prefer Ken Brown , Peter Allis and Wayne Grady.

Nope. I think he is a complete idiot and if he wasn't Richard Boxall's mate, he wouldn't get near a microphone. Did you ever hear him mention the time he played with Seve?

:sbox:

No i really hope he mentions it at the Ryder Cup :temper:

It's the bleeding huge number of ad breaks that the US has that is the problem.

All commentators seem to have an issue with filling that (massive) amount of missed coverage, with different comments, when there's not actually something spectacular or different going on - even Peter Alliss runs out of Clubs celebrating their centenary!!

Butch is probably the best - very laid back - and Roe appears to be trying too hard. All have their quirks that either or annoy you.

Ken on the Course works much better than Wayne Riley imo. though a different sort of break.

Just mute it if it bothers you so much! Watched the footie with the sound off yesterday and a marked improvement.

Disagree completely about Riley, probably the best on course commentator there is. Insightful, witty, interesting. If only more of the Sky and BBC crew were like him!

Mark Roe suffers from the Freddie Trueman /Geoff Boycott problem. "In my day....", "I don't know what's going on out there...." and so on.

Such a know all that my wife, who sometimes watches the golf, felt obliged to Google him to see how great (or otherwise) his career had been. Suffice to say she was somewhat surprised by what she discovered.

I don't like his commentary at all. I note especially that he was very hard on Bubba (rightly) for just holding his arm out and not shouting fore when he smashed it into the crowd the other day, but when Rory did precisely the same on the 2nd today, Roe was as quiet as a mouse.

I'm pretty ambivalent about roe as an analyst, I don't think he's any better or worse than the average. Not sure why he has the commentary gig this time though, he's not very good. Hopefully normal service will be resumed next week.

Interesting to see Coltart out on the course in a similar vein to Ken Brown, ie rolling balls about. Nowhere near Mr Coltart. Ken has that avenue nailed.
As for Roe, can't be doing with him. Seems very opinionated and uber critical at times, plus very monotone. Prefer Boxall on Sky. Peter Alliss makes me smile especially when in reminisce mode!
