Now City have qualified how will they do. Personally I don't think they'll get anywhere near as far as Spurs did. Undoubtedly they'll go out and buy big names on big wages but it isn't enough and you can't build a team that way. Granted Barca are all big names but they play as a unit and utilise their collective talents.

I think City will scrape through the qualifier against the finest from Denmark or Belgium and then get spanked in the group stages.

lets hope so

Lets get this straight, I've nothing against City. I'm a Fulham fan and so have my own crosses to bear and will cheer on any British side playing against European opposition. City have done enough to qualify albeit through splashing the cash in unreal terms. Dzeko hasn't exactly repaid that investment. Balotelli?? Flawed genuius or just straight nutter. Either way I hope they do well but my gut instinct is that they've punched above their weight and even with new bigger names they won't gel into a cohesive unit and won't feature in the top 4 next year and will whimper into the Europa League and go out quickly

My mate walked in and asked the bookie for a price on Man City to win the Champions League within 5 years when that Arab bought them over.

33/1 - he stuck £100 on it.

The bookies are quoting City at 13/2 to win the leauge next year.

For those of you that dont understand betting if you put £20 on them. You Lose £20.

You're assuming of course that ManC don't beat Arsenal to 3rd place - not beyond the realms of possibility.

That's because Liverpool will win the league next year.

Ahhhhh a Manure fan going a nice shade of green. It's a shame for you.
not city or utd fan (everton if ya need to know & remember last weekends result before ye start) just wondering why you think the manure fan (i assume you mean man u ??) as you call them would be going nice shade of green .. surely 4th would a huge dissapointment for them .. ?? would it not , be great for city & yes everton to achieve 4th but not for them , ye bought ye,r way into fourth & are now the hated club (NOT including fans in this ) in all of england because of the arrogance ye'r club shows & they way ye treated Mark Hughes .. im a football fan aswell as an everton fan & city are not covering their club in glory with their attitude to other clubs etc .. mancini is a clown .. again this is not aimed at city fans just the clubs.. like evertonians the loyal fans deserve everything good that happens ..

Its disgusting the way City are changing the face and spirit of the game buying players with cash. Its simply not fair and an insult to all true footy fans that every time they fill up their car they're paying part of Yaya Toure's £200k a week wages. Not sure what the tax bracket is for £15mil a year crowd, but the government coffers, hospitals and schools would be far better off if he was on £6.50 an hour. And whats with this Mancini character: one minute he's singing the Pink Panther song, the next minute he's got a team in the Champions League?

At least with City it is just some guys riches that is being used ala Jack Walker at Blackburn. The problem will come for City when this guy walks away and leaves a squad full of £150k pw players that no one can simply afford to take on.

If thats how they want to do it then let them at it. The signings of Dzeko and Ballotelli are proof that money doesn't instantly buy you goals and they were left short when Tevez got injured.

Based on standards this year I can see Man City getting out of the group stages assuming a fit squad.

to be honest there not that great to watch a team of indviduals who never set the europa league on fire this year, some poor sides in there as well so cant see them doing much next year in the champions league.

Wait a minute - Man City aren't the first team to do this!!

I remember Blackburn in the mid 90s - Jack Walker splashing the cash to get the best players. I seem to remember him buying Shearer out of his own money - not the clubs.

Erm, has everyone forgotten Chelsea?? They wrote the book on spending daft money on players and, arguably, overinflated the market beyond repair. £50,000,000 on Torres?? A few years ago maybe but this season - £15,000,000 would have been too much.

So, unfortunately, we're at a stage now with football that if you want CL football then you've got to spend some serious wedge to get anywhere near it.

Oh, one other thing, QPR are in the Premiership next season - they are the worlds richest club - no contest. They've got Mittal, Briattore and another billionaire - so, 3 billionaires at the helm. Very soon they're going to be flexing some of that monetry muscle.

Football's only going one way..

Totaly 100% agree with you AW & werent they (blackburn chelsea etc) the least popular at that time aswell ... as i state i do not begrudge any TRUE city fan their glory as they truly deserve it the ones who support the club thru thick & thin but the way city the club handled alot of their transfers was disgusting (lescott , barry milner etc) & yes i agree football is going to go that way,, wonder what will happen when this new uefa or fifa rule comes in that wages can only represent a percentage of the clubs income ,what will these players future / attitude be when this reality bites ,, mercenaries of players & yes i accept its not only city but the OP referred to city ..

as a season ticket holder at MCFC for 31 yrs I feel qualified to say that City qualifying for the Champs league is great. What the Sheikh has done is no different to any other club owners/chairmen over the years, just on a grander scale.
Remember 11 yrs ago we were in the 3rd tier playing Wycombe, York and macclesfield, now in champs league and FA Cup final ( which by the way, has been disgracefully organised by not making it the usual showcase event, and "tagging it on to the regular fixtures)to come so far so quick is great.
Any one who is anti city is a mug, can they honestly say that they wouldnt be happy to have the resources we have?
To say mancini is a clown is somneone who is so blinkered, won every thing in Italy, been the City manager 18 mths, qualified for 4th (up to now) and in Cup Final is an achievement with a team still gelling. How long did bacon face ( Furguson) take to get to a cup final? Ferguson is of course the most incredible human ever (sic) never bullies, never rants, never shows dis RESPECT, to match officials....get over yourselves, the blues are here to stay, we deserve all the success and glory we are going to get......BLUE MOON RISING

No team deserves success and glory - that has to be won on the pitch.

All that has happened here is another team has become the plaything of a mega-rich man. That is nothing to do with deserving anything - it just means that you can compete in the ridiculous over priced transfer market and have the means to unsettle players at other clubs by letting them know you 'like them'. You also have the financial clout to back it up. A lesson that has been learned from Real Madrid amongst others.

I've nothing against the fans of any of these teams - it is just a sad reflection of what football has become. The big teams no longer build their strength from just their youth set-up if they see someone they want they just pay inflated prices as it is loose change to the owners.

There is some rubbish written on this thread so far and it sounds like sour grapes to me.

I reckon City are just going to go from strength to strength as time goes on. The squad they have is still gelling and you should remember that it took a while for Chelsea to get playing together as a unit after they invested heavily in new players post Abramovich.

Balotelli is a bit potty but I think could come good with a stable environment and careful nurturing. Dseko is quality and you only need to look on youtube to see that he is a very capable player. This pattern of needing a season to grow into the playing style of the Premiership has been seen before. A good example is Thierry Henry who did nothing for a year and then blossomed into one of the finest players to grace English football.

City have got very talented players and will do well in the Champions League. Especially given that the transfer window this summer is going to go mad as the big teams scramble to get quality in before the new fair play rules come in. As an example, I heard a rumour from someone at the FA today that he had it on strong authority that Man City were preparing a mind boggling bid to bring Xavi to Eastlands.

They may succeed if the price is right. Not only that, I would not be surprised to see Mancini leave in the summer and be replaced by Pep G from Barca. These are the terms that the sheik is thinking in terms of and nothing is out of the realms of possibility.

My prediction is Man City in the last 8 of the CL next season with a good chance of making the last 4.

And yes, I do like Man City as I had a season ticket at Maine Road during my university years!

Yep ! but in 2 seasons time it will be the Mighty Eagles of Crystal Palace winning the Premiership and venturing into Europe!

Chris

This morning, it has been reported that City are tabling bids for Kaka, Fabregas and Sneijder.

City will get what they want in the end...
