Mail on Sunday National Golf Club Classic

We play the Ladies version of this, team of 5 and all singles matchplay. We reached the 1/4 finals last year and it was THE best fun I've ever had playing golf. We were such a great team with such spirit and took caddies to the matches and played great and had great fun too. We hammered one of our neighbouring clubs 5-0 in deradful weather and all our team waited on the 16th green to see the last 2 players in and we walked down 17 and 18 feeling like we'd won the Solheim Cup. We lost away at Toft which is such a different course to ours and home advantage can be a huge advantage for sure. I was so nervous that frequent visits to the loo were required before matches but matchplay is my thing so managed the nerves when it counted.

We're away at Cromwell in the first round this year so planning to play there the week before the fixture - we take this seriously !!!

I love the practice rounds too, get to play some nice courses. We also open it up to club members to come caddy if they wish. Last year I caddied as I was off of 19 but looking forward to playing if I pick myself for the team ;)

It would appear that we have a bye in the first round.

As a club I have played in several of these over the years but we have never faired too well.

I have done fairly well in the Foursomes the one year I played getting through 5 rounds but still short of anything ground breaking.

Usually a good fun event but home advantage is key with these events nearly all of the time.

I caddied when we lost - not saying any more than that

HID caddied for me and was brilliant although we had a domestic on a pre match 9 hole practice session so wasn't sure it would work!! We agreed NO technical advice which worked and I'll always remember as we approached the 8th tee and I was debating "go for it or lay up" with no confidence and without a word he took the head cover of my driver and handed it to me. I hit a beauty which soared over the ditch as if it wasn't there :whoo:

The club I am a member at got to the final of this last year and lost to wentworth I believe. By the sounds of it the rewards for getting to the finals abroad are great, I think every member of the team got a personalised bag and complete uniforms from polo shirts, trousers, water proofs and jumpers, so they will always have memories of it. From what I have been told home advantage is key to it as it is very tough to go away and win. Never played in this myself or in any team in fact but its something I hope to do one day.

We got to the final of this three seasons ago at Worseley Park. Brilliantly run event and well worth your club
entering. Home advantage is key as we only played two away ties from six to make the final. It's changed from a
3/4 handicap difference to a full handicap difference over the last couple of years which makes it more difficult to get through.
