I am off to Cheshire this on Sunday/Monday for a short golfing break. Obviously the weather has been poor but it's supposed to improve slightly in the next few days. I don't mind a bit of rain but could just do without a monsoon.

Anyway, my question to anyone who has ever been there when the weather wasn't so good....are the courses ok when wet?

Really don't want my weekend ruined by countless puddles or even worse a course closure :mmm:

I know the course well! It's a good set up. There are 2 courses and one 9 hole course that's worth a look. I actually think the portal premier course is better than the championship one! Much more interesting holes and some cracking par 3's! Oh, and Saturday is supposed to be nice!

I know, shame I am arriving on Sunday! Forecast looks good for the next few days so hopefully the courses will dry out a bit. More rain forecast for Sunday/Monday. As long as it's lightish I don't mind....fingers crossed

I hope it's ok. I'm there on Fri/SAt.

I was there at the begining of September it was a bit damp but very playable, greens were good but slow due to the dampness. Both courses were enjoyable although I enjoyed the championship more.

Agree totally!

Championship is probably in better condition and holds up to the rain better - but for me its a case of hit it hard walk after it hit hard again and repeat as necessary!

Premier is far more interesting to play - not just about how far you can hit it!

I working about a mile away from Portal at the moment.
The weather has been ok so far today, and forecast is for sun all day on Friday so I'd say you'll probably be ok.
I've always enjoyed playing Portal, only ever played the Championship course though.

Thanks for the replies. There is a driving range isn't there? Going with my brother who is a bit rusty and will need a warm up
