Evening all,
Been wondering lately about whether there is truth in the science behind high MOI putter's or not.

All thats written about Moment of Inertia in irons, woods hybrids, and drivers seems to be a huge selling point of these products.
But does the same statement sway your decision in buying a putter or is it still down to what you feel comfortable with.

A few months ago i forgot my TM Itsy Bitsy and had to swing into our club shop for a loan of a putter for the round..
Now i was putting well with the TM so it wasnt as if i really needed to change but the day i used the Seve Half mallet i putted really well.
A trade was made with the Tm and iv used the Seve for the past 4 months or so.
On friday i popped back into the shop and low and behold there was my old love in behind all the new fangly shiney ones and to say i pined for it was an understatement.
I changed because of nothing other than impulse and it never really improved or made my putting worse.

Im strongly thinking of going back to the TM if for nothing other than a little more confidence standing over those 4-8 footers. Its distance control for me was exceptional..Whether or not it was down to the science in it or not but something seemed to make it work.It was always a kind of point and shoot club for me.

Have you ever regretted changing a putter?

am looking to change putter, bought an itsy bitsy but didnt notice it was left handed. Tried one in AG and realised I dont like it anyway.

Have to say I prefer softer faced putters, not happy with the feel of the TM's.

For me it has to be feel off the face, also realised I prefer a mallet style and for me the Nike Method #5 felt sweet. Also tried a belly putter 2 ball and again was very impressed but felt a little wierd and slightly cheating :)

each to their own I think, putters seem to be more of a personal choice than anything else

apart from a really cheap one to start with I have always had the same putter and have never been tempted to change. The whole MOI thing is far more obvious with driver and irons but possibly more important with a putter.

I'll only change a putter if I lose confidence in it.
I had a WhiteHot Tour Oddyssey No.5 like Ernie uses and I putted great with it. Gradually I began to have trouble with 3-4 footers, just not lining up right. Lost confidence it the putter and changed to a Sabertooth to help line up and keep the swing on line. It helped - no doubt.
Then I began having problems with pace, a common problem with me and insert putters and the confidence went again. The Scotty is giving me the best of both Worlds at the moment - and long may it continue.

Thats a face balanced mallet isnt it Murg?
Its much like the TM i had i think.Steel face no insert.

ive got a "blade"y type putter that most of teh time i love

I have in the car/garage, a BIG heavy mallet - it couldnt be more different in weight and feel. When i have an extended period of not getting on with my main putter, i switch them. Usually i find that the big MOI of teh mallet then helps stabilise my stroke and passify wrist action.
Then after a couple of rounds i go back to the blade, which serves me well for another 6 months or so
