It was our Club Championship last weekend, and as my last three rounds had been top notch I was my usual excited self come Saturday morning. We have two courses, and its 36 holes medal, with a round each day.

So I played my worst golf for about three years on Saturday, and with all the scores going up in the clubhouse on a big board I was ashamed and embarrassed to be dead last at the end of Saturday for all to see. Failed to break a hundred for the first time in as long as I can remember (I'm off 14).

Sunday dawned and I was determined that my goal was to save some face and bounce back. Really windy conditions and the rough is right up. So some judicious course management and absolute focus, and I found myself looking at a 15 footer on the long 18th for a nett 1 under, and nailed it. On arrival back in the clubhouse I find I am the only one under par (for the second day!). Only two others managed it, so I found myself 92 places better and won the Sunday round! Today I also find that CSS was 2 over, so I have been cut 0.9 to 13.0, my lowest ever.

I'm made up and can't understand just where that Saturday hack came from - I think it was over anticipation and expectation, so I need to learn to manage that.

Now playing off 7/8ths tomorrow in a comp and only getting 11 shots, but can't wait!

You showed some good mental strength in doing that mate, well done. Remember to recall this experience for encouragement next time you need a boost on the course.

Well done to you.

I did something similar last weekend. I played in the medal and shot 97, net 80. I was horrified & of course my handicap went up 0.1

The following day I went to a corporate golf day at Foxhills, playing off the white tees, I won it with 37 points !! Go figure that one.

I get so up tight before medals, I cant even think straight. I cant even say I settle down properly after 3-4 holes. Of course when I went to the corporate day, I breezed up with not a care in the world and played out of my skin !!

Perhaps it was the same for you on the Sunday, things cant get any worse & you know you have nothing to lose.........

On a similar note, but not playing. I went range today to really work on my fade and turn it into a draw at worst. I only got 50 balls and warmed up gradually feeling pretty good by the time i started to strike the balls. 50 of the worst I have hit. So I decided to get another basket and work on the 3 ball drill. By the time I had finished the second basket I was hitting a nice high draw onto a small green 160 yards away with the 7 iron. So poor to start with and so good to hi.

Well done for pulling it together!
