So as yet another wagon appears with soil from underneath a now extinct pub, we got to talking about beer that are no longer with us. My favorite beer was and still is Wilsons. A true session beer. Only 3.5 %, but with a beautiful creamy head, and gorgeous smooth beer, it went down a treat. Oh and Websters, a Yorkshire brew vastly superior to the John Smiths muck.

Double Diamond.... Suspect my tastes have changed somewhat and I'd most probably consider it awful nowadays... But, back in the day, couldn't get enough of it...

Also, although I am still known to over indulge, I still have a preference for the Guinness that was brewed, up the road, in Park Royal...

One I don't miss is Red Barrel...

I am too old to remember the favourites from my younger days but I certainly enjoyed the beer in Scotland more than I enjoyed the beer in Surrey.

Any bitter did me as a teenager and I drank a lot of Red Barrel simply because I liked the pub.

Marksman Lager brewed by the now defunct Mansfield brewing company on great Central rd. The lager was just divine and as good as any mass produced and premium lagers. the company was sold to a brewing company in Wolverhampton and very quickly the Mansfield brands went tits up.
The Mansfield brewing company was 1/4 mile from the town centre and when they were brewing you could smell the hops etc in the air. Always smelled like warm milk on weetabix to me.
Happy days.

Any beer that was not a 'made under license' version. Gales HSB before it was made by Fullers. Eldridge Popes Huntsman, and 1880, back when the brewery was in Dorchester. Imported Stella, at 5.2 % not the 4.8 made in the UK muck.

Boddingtons when it was brewed in Manchester. Was on draught (cask) in loads of places and went down easier than Franny Lee in the penalty box. Holes is a good session beer too.

Lager wise......anyone remember Labatts (sp)? Weak as water lager but could drink loads of the stuff. That's before they got all posh and brought out the 'ice' version in bottles.

Tartan
Trophy
Watneys
Davenports

The part 4's were a favorite of mine, stabbing them with a screwdriver because nobody owned a proper opener.

not lost per se, just mislaid.

Red stripe, when it first arrived on draft in pubs in the 80's a lovely drop, Stella as well.

then ruined them by brewing under licence in Coventry and not where they were originally brewed.

Whitbread Tankard
Oranjeboom (with those sprung ceramic and rubber tops)
Wadworth 6X
Pale Ale
The list is probably endless......probably;)

No that was a banging beer ................... by Watney's.

Used to love Wychwood - Fiddler's Elbow. Lush.

Still enjoying Battledown's Natural Selection and Bath Ales' Golden Hare. Please please please don't let them disappear.

I vaguely remember when this came out on draught in one of the working mens clubs i used to frequent as a yoof
