I just did trump turnberry mon/tue played 9 hole Arran then Robert the Bruce on Tuesday. My son found the 18 holes walking no problem i thought he would have been knackered and he loved it. So thinking about the next getaway. He off for a few days in February and I phoned trump aberdeen but for some reason you can only book in on a Saturday or Wednesday for hotel. He’s got to be back at school on the Thursday so that rules that out.
What other places are top courses with a spa so my wife can come along ?
I’m thinking maybe St Andrews or gleneagles but not sure how gleneagles courses hold up in winter weather never played them ?

Never been but Cabot Highlands or Castle Stuart as it used to be called sounds like that sort of place.
closed till end of march and only has limited accommodation until the new development is finished which i would imagine will be when the 2nd course opens in 2026.

TO the OP, id avoid Scotland until April, most members courses will be on short courses and mats and resort/pay and play types dont tend top open over the winter.

If the OP follows the advice of @patricks148 and waits until later in the year then I can not recommend Gleneagles highly enough. Fabulous courses, gorgeous hotel, no idea about the spa but I'd be willing to bet big it is a highly pleasant place to be. It's a wonderful set up and fits your brief perfectly.

Where's the place that Finch has played multiple times with the huts and its own private putting green? That looks like heaven!

Not sure about drainage overall but the PGA course should be OK as it was built as a tournament venue and it has the advantage of sub air on the greens so they should be playable all year round. But my choice would definitely be a links course.

If you don't mind splashing the cash look at the Marine hotel in Troon (some good winter deals) and you have loads of course options in the area.

Shame that trump Aberdeen dates doesn't work for you. Course was in great condition before Christmas. They closed on the 24th December and will be opening back from 15th January on Wednesday to Sunday till end of February.
I was lucky to take winter membership this year as from March membership and green fees going double in prices

Gleneagles is playing full courses albeit they will be from the yellow tees, the Queens will be closed for the full of February. PGA fairways will be soft and possibly wet depending on the weather but the greens are brilliant.

I am thinking I’ll just do international and keep him off school for an extra day or two. I know my wife can get a massage at international but they don’t have pool/ sauna do they can’t find it on there website so I’m guessing no. Is there any nice hotels close to international with good spas I quite like a spa day myself lol ?

Marcliffe Hotel is about 25 min drive from Trump International

Other options would be Ardoe House, Sandman or Hilton TECA, I think all have a spa.

The hotel at Trump is small so limited facilities there.

Just a note on Trump International given you said you thought your son would be knackered......it's a fair trek round there with long walks between greens and next tees.

Gleneagles or St Andrews (Old Course Hotel or Fairmont) would be good alternatives.

I’ve played international before I think he will be ok playing from the reds he was fine after Robert the Bruce course this week and came onto a game the last 3 holes I was joking he was just getting warmed up for another 18 lol. That’s the first time he’s played 18 holes walking usually if I take him to my local I’ll get a buggy. Plus we can always have a break at the half way house if needed.

Massive cost though.

Absolutely, but the OP seems to be okay with that. If this was a value for money thread it wouldn't be at the top of the list but the OP did throw it in as an option.
I’ve been to gleneagles a few times but never played golf, they do probably have my favourite spa out of everywhere I’ve been. Plan to do all 3 courses but will probably have to do it over a few different visits. Think 18 holes 3 days in a row would kill my boys legs lol I’ll try and definitely get one of the courses done this summer.
