Long iron or hybrid?

Let me think about it for a minute.
No.
;)

Ah your no fun. you could hand deliver it to me and I'll throw in a round of golf when you get here. C'mon, where's your sense of adventure?

Back on hybrid or iron. I have 4 hybrids with 2 in the bag at any one time

Cant see me ever using a 3 or 4 iron unless I need to dig the tatties out!

Its all about consistency
Possibly the best shot I've ever hit was with a 3 iron but I haven't had one in the bag, with one or two rare exceptions, for 10 years or more.
Because, although I can still miss hit a hybrid, I'm much more consistent with one than the equivalent iron. The majority of amateur golfers will be more consistent with a hybrid.
They might hit the odd good one with a 3 iron and think they're better with it than they really.
This is an area where something like GameGolf wins - you can see how well or how badly you really rather than your perception.
As mentioned, Cross field did a comparison between long iron and hybrid and was surprised that the hybrid was better.
There's always going to be exceptions to every rule but, once you've found the right swing/ball position, the chances are the hybrid will win more often than not.

I added a 3h to my bag some time ago and it is much easier to hit than a 3i. Last year I added a 4h but in comparison to a 4i there really isn't any big advantage for me and in truth I prefer the 4i. Used some vouchers to get bargain JPX800 2h over the summer to use off the tee on the short par 4's and it is so good I ditched my 3w which I used to use for that purpose.

I think Scienceboy makes a great point about not trying to hit the hybrids too hard. It's not like hitting a long iron. Swing easy and let the club do the work.

I was struggling to hit a hybrid recently so during a lesson I asked my pro for some advice. He told me to move the ball position much further forward in my stance, towards my left toe. It's a bit out of my comfort zone but I have had some nice hybrid strikes recently with my Ping G20.

Had never tried a hybrid until last weekend. I picked one up cheaply from ebay. My irons only come in 4-SW so I fancied giving one a try.

It's a TM Rescue Dual 19 degree and I hit it like a dream - I will be keeping it in the bag for sure and ordered a 22 degree one to go with it.

I got myself a 2 Hybrid over Xmas to supplement not having a 3W as I struggle to hit them, and not really getting on with it yet. Going to hit the Aeroburner 3 Wood at some point soon and if I hit that well I'll be thinking of adding one of those to the bag instead. Should give the 2 hybrid more of a run though tbh, as I hit my 4H amazing, it's the best club in my bag.

Same issue i'm having. Havn't found a hybrid that I like, and I desperatley need something to fill the yardage gap between my 4 iron which goes about 210 and my 3 wood which goes 265. I have no problem hitting the long irons. My last set was 2-pw, but I had to sell them to fund the new ones which only go from 4-pw.
