The area where I live, South Tyneside, is on local lockdown from midnight tonight. The question of whether golf is allowed appears to have been answered by this statement on the Local Authority website:

"18. What are the changes to playing sports?
Unless formally organised by a sports club or similar organisation, with guidance issued by a sports governing body, team sports should not take place at an indoor or outdoor venue with people who you don't live with."

The fact that we can socialise at the same time is purely incidental.

Really happy that we can still play, although there has yet to be any guidance issued by England Golf.

I read that that you can't play golf tbh.

Your social rounds of golf aren't organised by an organisation. They're organised by individuals.

My club sent an email saying business as usual until they get guidance from Golf England or Northumberland Golf. The guidance is currently woolly and confusion reigns. They have followed the rules precisely so far, they are not trying to be clever.

My back has stopped me playing right now, I need to rest it. It might be good timing ?.

What a selfish attitude. What about old folks like me who have nothing better to do? ?

P. S. Hope your back gets better soon.

One of the questions on the Local Authority website:

"20. Can I go to the gym, gym class or a swimming pool?
Yes, as long as these venues have the required Covid-secure risk assessments and guidelines in place."

No different from a golf course, much safer than an indoor gym.

Is it?

I mean I don't think golf should be stopped, but, having gone to the gym since lock down I see a lot better social distancing there than at the course.

A lot less social interaction in a gym than on the course of the bar after.

Other parts of the Country, North West, Leicester, Birmingham etc have already been and are still in these further lockdown restrictions, is anyone aware if Golf Clubs in those areas are closed?

I asked yesterday if my Junior Coaching has to stop this weekend and was told no, so long as we comply with the Covid guidelines set out by England Golf.

Procedures in our Clubhouse are changing from today, reduced hours, table service only etc, but there is no change to the information and requirements on the course as laid out by England Golf.

I'm not sure table service makes much of a difference. It's not the folk working who disregard the rules.

It only takes 2/3 pints and social distancing goes out the window.

I think golf is fine to do, but I do think if (most) people are honest with themselves. They don't observe the rules as strictly as they did straight after lockdown. Which was simply my point about golf being no better than a gym.

I would be surprised to see golf courses and Gyms etc closed during the lockdown ( mind you with the Gov contradiction rules up to yet I wouldnt).
Surely going to the Gym, golf, any form of exercise should be encouraged, not just to keep you fitter, but mentally active.
#staysafeBill.
If the courses close you may have to take up grouse shooting ??

But then your point is not really Golf specific, possibly 2 different scenarios, on course and off course.

I’d be happy with them closing the Clubhouses, Pubs, Restaurants etc as letting them open all day until 10pm is daft.

I agree re the clubhouse etc. But whilst I think that's the big issue. Go into a gym and see how many people are stood next to one another chatting.

Still happens more on the course. But if we're to believe being outside stops transmission massively then I guess it's not an issue.

Unless the track and trace system is showing spikes from golf clubs I see no reason why golf would be stopped. It is an outside activity (lows transmission of the virus), good for physical and mental health, employs lots of people. If bars and restaurants will remain open then why not clubhouses? Now club bars may not be viable to stay open under these restrictions but that is another matter.

Golf has not been stopped in places where there are specific hotspots so I see no reason why it would be stopped here.

No golf courses have been closed in any other areas where there is local lockdown. I am due to play a course in Bolton on Sunday. Golf courses are Covid safe and there won't be more then 4 people together. Team sports refers to sports where there would be more than 6 people that would normally break the law. Exactly how hunting is a team sport though, I don't know.

A comment I would agree with after watching a visiting society at our club on Wednesday. All club rules and guidance re covid totally ignored.
