Can we have a list of 1 and 2 shot penalties in STROKEPLAY for ease of use on here?

I am talking about everyday occurrences like grounding your club in a hazard, causing a ball at rest to move etc.

So for example

1 shot penalty

You cause your ball which is at rest to move. Replace ball at original spot.

2 shot penalty

Giving or accepting advice from another player (unless its your partner/caddy/ partners caddy).

Just keep adding to the list and soon enough we can have a handy sticky with rules at a glance?

Here's my refereeing crib of 1 stroke penalties - no money back, no guarantee - it isn't necessarily comprehensive.

1 Stroke Penalties

12-2 lifting ball for identification without proper procedure
14-4 Striking ball more than once
16-2 Ball overhanging hole falls in after time is up
18-2 Ball moved by player, partner or caddie
Ball moved after address
19-2 Ball deflected by player, partner or caddie
20-1 Lifting a ball that is to be replaced without marking
20-2a dropping ball incorrectly
20-3a ball replaced by wrong person
21 Cleaning ball when not allowed
24-2 b (ii) relief from immovable obstruction in bunker by dropping outside bunker on line between hole and place where ball lies
25-2 b (ii) relief from abnormal ground condition in bunker by dropping outside bunker on line between hole and place where ball lies
26-1 relief from water hazard
27-1a Stroke and distance
27-1b and c Ball OOB or lost.
28 Ball unplayable

nope - 'cos when you don't replace this one's 2 shots.....ie this isn't the way to look at it.

pb's pretty much spot on - rough guide...but the example above, and the possible variations, is why it's better to just learn how to read the rules than consider a 'quick guide that means I don't have to look things up'.

I'm STILL unsure about this possible situation re penalty shots or replacing so here we go again.
A player is on the green- say 3feet away from the hole and it's his turn to play . So he's trying his putting stroke while aiming away from the hole just to get his rhythm but accidently catches the ball with the toe of his putter at a angle and the ball goes in the hole.
Must the ball be replaced , is there a penalty involved if so why, as the player did hit his ball with his club , albe'it not as he intended, but you never try to hit a bad shot do you:confused:

1. Yes:
2. Yes 1 stroke penalty in both stroke and match play.
3. Because a stroke is an intentional action. The player wasn't actually trying to hit a shot so a stroke was not made. The ball must be holed with a stroke. During a practice swing hitting the ball is not the intention. Getting really pedantic here within the rules a practice stroke actually carries a 2 shot penalty. Your example is taking a practice swing ;) . The thing is though, the player hitting it could always declare it was intentional.

Anyway back to the OP. I generally follow something similar to the rough guide Pbrown set down but a little different.

An accidental incident which tends to give no tangible advantage is 1 shot, an action (generally premeditated) contrary to the rules that may give a potential advantage 2 shots.

So moving loose impediments in a bunker. = premeditated action with potential advantage 2 shots.
Accidentally moving your ball = accidental incident and replacing removes any advantage that may have been gained.
Failure to replace it then becomes a premeditated action with potential advantage so boosts it to 2 shots.

This also clears up Louise's question about the 2 shot penalty for accidentally playing a wrong hole. Although not premeditated the advantage of playing the wrong hole is effectively like practice on the course during a comp. I did it once and it threw my round down the drain because I didn't know the ruling and was worried about DQ.

Why don`t you lot buy "Golf Rules Made Easy" from Amazon and such like, Look it up, it`s a brilliant piece of equipment that has illustrations showing the majority of situations you`re likely to encounter during a round of golf. It`s permanently in my golf bag. :)

That's fine then, we'll just scrap the rules of golf section.

Why?

It`s a lot easier and quicker to use OUT ON THE COURSE than the Official R&A version, thus SPEEDING up play.

@rulefan, see this reply to your question.

Just looked at that. Used to have it on my iphone before changing to android. Have to say it was a very clear reference guide and does answer the majority of questions you might have in day to day play.

+1

I've not run side by side tests but I can't see how anything could be quicker than the R&A 'Quick guide to the Rules' designed to cover the basic situations you find on the course.

If your club doesn't have them sitting in the the lounge and pro-shop tell then to order a thousand - they only have to pay the postage!
