I have been asked by a few ex colleagues to join Linked In which for those who don't know or care is like a business facebook. Well I joined and accepted their friend requests only to find they have loaded a pile of pish about themselves.

One girl couldn'd find her own arse with both hands and couldn't hit a budget if you stood her infront of it and handed her a driver but according to her profile she is so effin good she should be sat next to Lord Sugar for the next series of The Apprentice.

Another says she has 7 years experience but only started selling in 2006 ... eh .... you dont have to be Pythagoras to work that out hen. And according to my records they NEVER hit a bloody budget.

Is anyone one here lying their tits off on Linked In?

I am on Linkedin, but don't really use it or regard it as terribly useful. It seems like it is mostly frequented by recruiters, and after a while the constant list of requests from recruiters to befriend them becomes a bit of a pain.

And, no, I don't lie my arse off on it.

I find it useful for keeping your name out thier.Itis pratically useful for any people who work on a contract basis, ie project engineers, project managers etc.
Some peoples profile can be a little "inflated".
I have found it useful for recruitment purposes only.

Keep getting requests but turn them down. The IT gestapo at work block any sort of social networking site anyway and can't be buggered dealing with anything work related (especially once recruitment agency's start firing requests off) when I get in

I use it a lot as I do a fair bit of interviewing. I think it says a lot about people, and you don't have to look at it too much to start picking out the people you wouldn't trust as far as you could throw them. Amazing how often potential candidates re lin ked to me in some way and I can get a second opinion.

I'm careful about who I acept invites from - would I recommend them for a job is always a good litmus test, and likewise who I ask to link to. A useful tool open to misinterpretation if not well used IMO.
