Captains 2017 all planned for Lingfield park.

Hoping someone one has played there recently and can fill me with hope, as the posts I've found on here are a few years old and less than convincing........

hope you arent paying too much .
its not a very good course with very few good golf holes.
a few of us played it quite often as we were only paying a tenner a pop so it was just about worth while.
its not a place i would choose to take a group of people in the hope of impressing them .
having said all that ,it is a golf course and you are going to play golf so at least it fits that bill.
the only thing i would be doing is looking for the albino squirrel that lives in the woods on the right hand side of the fifth hole ,more towards the green end.
i honestly cant think that i have been unfair on the course as it really is dull as ditch water.

Ah wonderful!

I don't know what's considered too much re cost!
We are paying £250 for 2 nights breakfast and dinner along with prizes.

Probably around £210 for the weekend i'd imagine, think hotel is costing more than golf.

Seems a bit steep, unless a large part of that is the prize fund.

Shame you've paid up front for dinner at the hotel (Marriot, I presume?), because there's a really good Indian restaurant in the town.

Seems the going rate of golfbreaks etc.

They're showing as £236. Doesnt help its a fri-sun even so rooms and rates a premium i guess.

The hotel and restaurant were really good, so for 250 its not bad for 2 nights. The Spa is apparently very good too. Breakfast was cracking! Course was OK, nothing to write home about, but for a group outing for the crack, it was perfectly ok.

Thats good to hear.
Tbf I've enjoyed the previous 3 society days I've been on, and not heard too many glowing reviews about Stoke by nayland, Luton hoo or Heythrop park and i enjoyed the courses...

It's one of those courses that needs to be tricked up from its generally maintained condition to play enjoyably. The layout isn't very natural but when the fairways are well cut, greens and fringes sorted and, critically, rough cut properly, it's an enjoyably challenge for a couple of rounds.

But it varies hugely (and general time of year isn't an indicator - it's about any big events they have taken on).

Hotel is exactly that; never had a bad meal there but I've waited an hour to get served at the bar and drinks can be seriously expensive. Spa is rated highly by those who have used it.

Whilst it probably doesn't help if you are already committed....a far better option in the area, on absolutely every level, is East Sussex National. (As rated recently by our ladies section !)

Although i've not paid up, I'm led to believe that the treasury has already paid the deposit.

Fingers crossed we get it in good nick.

I've probably played lingfield 6 times in total over the course of 4 years. It's fine.
Took 2 mates there last year, they don't play much golf and they really enjoyed it.

Played it a few times and believe that it is more than ok for a mates outing but it does sound a bit pricey.

Unfortunately, anywhere we play around the m25 is around £250 during august/september. As long as the course isnt horrific then 2 nights and two lots of breakfast and dinner with 3 rounds isn't too bad imo.

I played in a society weekend at Lingfield Park this summer, I never think any course is bad, it's just that some are better than others. Whilst Lingfield is not the best course I've played I enjoyed my weekend there, good practice range and putting, chipping areas, one hole that stood out was a par 3 with elevated tee looking down to a green surrounded by trees with a good backdrop.

Hotel and food was good and the gym and spa are of a good standard, agree with another comment regarding the spike bar being soulless, prices in the bars are expensive but that's to be expected.

Think I paid around £220 in May for 3 rounds with two nights stay with breakfast and dinner which I thought was really good value.

Sounds like you had the same package as we are getting. I think it'll be fine. Just have a good 2017 to look forward too and may end up being a golf snob lol
