I've posted on here before about the 18th where I play being a bit of a card wrecker for me because of the drive needed to play it properly.

Anyway, I was that bad off the tee the last time I played that I decided to hit 4 iron off the tee on this hole to see what would happen.

Hmm, that went a bit higher than I normally hit my 4 iron!
Looked at the bottom of the club and it was a 7, which is just underneath the 4 in my bag. It got over the ditch fine and finished in the middle of the fairway so I thought I'd hit it again (without trying to reach the green) just to see what happened. After all, a 7 iron to a fairway ought to be a high percentage fairly safe shot.
Caught the next one as well as the tee shot and left myself about 15-20yds short of the green. Pitch on and an easy 2-putt from about 15' for a bogey 5.

My average score on this hole in comps is 5.5 (par 4) mainly due to finding trouble off the tee. 2 x 7 irons and a chip for a par putt and a safe 5.

We'll see on Saturday if I've learnt my lesson from it. I know it's good course management but a 7 iron off the tee on a 410yd par 4!? I might get greedy and use a 6 iron :D

Never in a month of Sundays. :D
You'll get to the tee, pull out the 7 iron, hit the ball and you'll see it's amazingly turned into a driver.
Good luck with it and if you do manage to hit the 6 iron, I want photographic proof. :)

Sounds like a good mistake to make.

I will see how well I hit my driver on Saturday. If I start "over fading" *ahem*, I *should* just start hitting my 3 iron off the tee as I can knock that the right side of 200 yards which should be ample, but I *know* that given every opportunity I will want to try and "correct the error" with my next tee shot and continue to slice...I mean fade it too much.

You will think about it, then think I could be neaerer with the 6, then 5, then 4, then totally flip it up by trying to hit a 3i, which will go 135 yards right, into the bundu.

Just put a 6 on the card. You usually do.

what about bouncing a small wood/hybrid?

My 3 wood is just as likely to slice and I can reach the trouble with it.
My hybrid is the one club in my bag which I have a tendency to hook. Oddly for a Titleist club it looks very closed at address.

It'll either be driver if it's been behaving, or an iron if it's not and I've either got a good score going or can stay in my buffer with a 5.

Why don't you try putter-8 iron- putter for birdie?

I've seen it done and was gobsmacked with a feeling of complete averageness as my driver sailed wide and he nailed the putter down the fairway 220yrds.

Sounds like 6I 6I chip and putt

If I hit a 7-iron off the tee on our 18th in these conditions I'll end up in the car park :D

410 yards isn't that far at the moment so no need for driver. Maybe take a 6i off the tee at the weekend and you'll have a putt for birdie :)
