Southern Softie.
Suggest you read Ranolph Fiennes book Cold.
That will warm you up.

Haha I ain't no softie, I used do a lot of camping/climbing and have slept numerous times in winter on a mountain with just a bivvy bag.

It's just nice get into a warm bed now and again and not wake up freezing cold.

The problem might be solved, the landlord has just rang me an hour a go to say he is coming over at some point tomorrow with an electrician to look at it and the drier that's broke.

Also the not paying rent idea wasn't a wise idea looking back I was just peeved off as it's not the first time it's been a chew on to get something repaired by him.

Assuming he's a registered Landlord with the local council, complain to them... most councils have specialist departments who deal with private landlord complaints and can intervene on your behalf.

Maybe a daft suggestion, but why not by an electric blanket? Not too expensive and low running costs.

Once you've solved the immediate problem of staying warm at night, you can then pursue the landlord at your leisure.

Hope you get it sorted but I would recommend you get an oil filled electric rad for future just in case.

£40 for a 2kW and great for a small to middle sized room. Even the mini ones would probably do enough to take the chill of a bedroom and are easy to store. In 2010 when the oil froze in the pipes stopping my central heating I used one with great effect and no major impact to my electric bill in compression to the having used a few fan heaters. Thermostat so only runs to heat up just run this a tad below full and it sips electric after getting up to heat. Keeps releasing heat after being turned off unlike halogens and fans heaters and is also safer. Depending on the heater in your room they may actually be cheaper to run instead.
