Finished work at lunchtime today.Quite a sunny afternoon in prospect. Time for a round you would think.

I did consider however that we had around 48hrs of non stop rain Thursday and Friday. What condition would the course be in?
I imagined it would have been totally sodden through and squelchy underfoot! :(

Having not played for a few weeks now I really wanted to go for a round. Better judgement told me not to as it wouldn't help the course any, more so the greens.
With that in mind I plonked in front of the tv instead.

The point is...........I feel I've wasted a marvellous opportunity to play a round and feel I've wasted an afternoon. On the plus side I feel I've done my little bit in protecting the course by not playing.

Stupid or sensible? :D

Get yourself out there next time. It's the greenkeepers responsibility to preserve the course. If it was going to damage the course you playing then it would be closed. Let them decide and in the meantime, play if you get the chance because you might not get the chance that often.

Hi Basher.
I was talking to my mate who i ply golf with this morning and he said our course has been closed all week due to the rain.
I would imagine most courses would be very water logged or even closed.
You probably did yourself and the course a favour.

Basher, me and my mate tried to get out for 9 holes today to keep the swing ticking over but not a single course was open due to the sodding weather. might have been a wasted trip mate.

I'm a bit of a fair weather player and I know where you are coming from Basher! I have made a promise to myself that if it's wet/cold/I feel lazy, I'll go to the range and hit a bucket of balls.
I am making a trip tomorrow to a premier course, I hope that the range trips will pay off!

Dave

You did the right thing mate, grass doesnt grow thru winter so any protection is well needed.
Doesnt mean you can go the driving range to hit balls tho.

Called in at the club this morning to pay my fees.(No clubs in the car boot)
As it happens the course was closed, obviously due to the rain and much standing water.
As Craigy Mac suggested, I'm going down to the driving range soon to hit a few. No fear of damaging anything there!

Ours is definitely closed. The 15th and 16th are one sheet of water with just the tops of the bunkers and the banking around the greens in view. Those two are, or rather were, bounded by lakes, quite what the holes bordered by the river are like . .
I reckon at least a month but I know of a couple of courses that are playable so I'll have to join the scrum for a tee time.

I have managed to play every weekend since Christmas. The weather here has been better than for much of the summer. Ok there is some standing water in the bunkers but that is to be expected.

This weekend is the only weekend i have not played for ages.the Sat comp was cancelled but the course was open 14 holes only so could have played but my partners turned out to be wooses.
