Front axle has snapped on my petrol mower, so I made enquiries about spares but no joy (it's about 8 yrs old and superceded) so I started looking at replacing, but the prices šŸ«£.

I didn't even know that Hyundai made mowers but they seem to get good reviews.

As for Honda mowers šŸ˜³

Needs to be petrol or rechargeable but the Li mowers are just as expensive.

Any brands I should consider

If I can jump in on this, hopefully helpfully. I need to get one for work to cut the grass around us, biggish area. Is it best to get a propelled mower or is that unnecessary?

@Taz I'm looking at Webb mowers. They don't seem too bad a price.
 
I have a Lawnflite Pro (identical to Cobra, just different label)
Its a 19 in rotary, driven rear metal (split) roller with shaft drive for it. It has a Honda 4 stroke engine. The deck is cast aluminium and very solid. The grass catcher is also a good size.
It is a heavyish mower, but cuts lovely, gives good stripes and picks up almost everything (which is more than the Hayter I had before did.
 
I've just bought an EGO 47cm mower with a 7.5Ah lithium battery, self propelled. Have a large garden >700 sq m...the battery is good for at least 2 cuts and it works well over our lawn (which at best can be described as somewhat bobbly) and is relatively light and maneuverable and the variable self propelled speed is useful. Battery recharges in 35 minutes.

Best thing is it collapses like an electric golf trolley and can be stored upright, so great if you've got limited shed space.

Used to have a Webb 15ā€ cylinder mower at our old house for quite a large lawn area. Brilliant engine on it and superb cut quality.
 
I did a bit of research on petrol mowers last year as I was planning to start doing lawn care locally. Iā€™m currently taking a gap year but I still might.
I came to the conclusion that the Hyundai Black Edition represented the best balance of value for money and reported quality.

Not a lawnmower, granted, but have a Hyundai Black 100L dual motor compressor in my workshop and the quality is excellent. Quite quiet in operation (for a compressor).
 
Last year we got a Hyundai scarifier/lawn raker which is brilliant. We will probably be replacing the old petrol mower (and Bosch battery mower) later this year and have already decided on the Hyundai self propelled petrol mower. Good reviews and sensible price (y)
 
When I read all these posts, I wonder why anyone would even bother buying a ā€œregularā€ lawn mower anymore, when a robotic mower can do the same job better and withā€”in my opinionā€”less effort? šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø

My ā€œRobbyā€ has been mowing my lawn for over 10 years now to my complete satisfaction, and aside from regular maintenance and replacing wear parts (wheels, battery, seals), itā€™s never given me any troubleā€”for me, itā€™s the best purchase Iā€™ve ever made, right after buying my dishwasher! (y)

BTW, the original reason for buying it was that the grass often grew knee-high because I didnā€™t have time when the weather was good, and I couldnā€™t mow when I had time because of the weather. Robby doesnā€™t care about that. He sets off and mows in any weather - and my lawn is impeccable !

And Robby will keep mowing until his happy end: Yes, the latest Robomowers have come a long way and cost only a fraction of the price, but Iā€™m sticking with my Robby! ā¤ļø
 
Based on the comments on here and the reviews I've read I have ordered a Hyundai HYM430SP Lawnmower Self-Propelled. It should arrive tomorrow. Ā£244 but efectively Ā£203 to us as we can claim the VAT back

First cut will be a good challenge for it so I'll do a mini review when it is dry enough to cut. I'm using it to cut an area of grass around our factory unit so it is quite sizeable and also not as flat as a regular garden. Hopefully, this is up to the job, the 3yr warranty was attractive on that front.

I have a mower that picks up the grass and gives me a nice stripped lawn lawn. If I wanted a muncher I would have one. Even at the height of summer, my grass collection bag will need emptying twice at a minimum, I doubt your robotic device would be able to empty itself or have such a large bag to hold everything.

Cutting grass with a lawn mower is the most satisfying household chore I can think of. I actually enjoy it.

Why should it ? :unsure:

The clippings Robby cuts off are so small that you canā€™t even see them, and they also serve as fertilizer for the lawn.

Itā€™s a completely different approach: Instead of mowing once or twice a week, Robby works every day. This keeps the grass short from the start, rather than cutting long grass short. Thereā€™s no need for a bag to collect the clippings! šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø
 
Don't laugh but I bought my petrol mower from Lidl I think (may have been Aldi) nearly 10 years later still going strong, started first pull last week after being away all winter. Cost Ā£125

The guy in the next unit to me used to do it for us both but he is leaving at the end of the month and, understandably, he doesn't care anymore. It was his own lawnmower, not through work as otherwise I'd have bought his off him. It's just on the right side of unruly at the moment so I will need to set it high and then cut it down again at a lower setting. Once I'm on top of it, it should be easy enough. A Friday job, when it's quiet.

No Robo for this I'm afraid, it's an open area so someone would steal it within hours, not even days šŸ˜¢
