I played 9 holes this evening with my youngest son. I lost 2 balls because of leaves lying on the course. I know it's the time of year but I have desided to play tomorrow and then hang the clubs up for the rest of the year. I will have the odd knock about during the winter months but no more competition's. We only have 4 more comp's left anyway.
Is anyone else planning on quitting this time of year?

I am with you on this one mate. I am not going to play any more comps until the start of next season and work on my game over the winter. I have done well coming down from 25 to 18 but am not playing well and not enjoying it as much either. Still play the odd pairs comps with my mate but no more medals or stableford comps for me. . . also our greens aren't brilliant at the moment and it's frustrating in a comp enviroment when your ball shoots off at a right angle . . .

Our last comp tomorrow, can't make it as I am doin' a bit of clay shooting.

Back to college so that's me pretty much tll mid May - though I am playing Ardglass next week - might just play a few links over the summer.

Sorry but I can't understand this at all. Different seasons give different challenges and I agree that looking amongst leaves is irkesome even on the fairway but I'd rather that than hitting the range every weekend or not playing at all.

Yes mate, what would have been our last qualifier the mora, is now just our last singles comp before winter league.
Playing that, then 9 hole open comp next friday before watching ryder cup in members bar.
My singles final will be my last competative match of the year, then I am going to take a time our to heal(lol) and then maybe get a few practice knocks in before pre season! :)

Don't get me wrong - I will be playing once a week - but as I have no time, and we revert till a short 12 hole course with temp greens.

I'll keep playing as much as I can all the way through. Missed the Medal wednesday, probably going to miss the next one in 2 wednesdays time but there's a couple of stablefords and a Medal left that I can hopefully play in. After that its play as often as the weather and work allows.

During the winter our course doesn't fair that well with water retention along a lot of the back 9, which is a shame as it's a decent track normally (once the greens have been sorted out - 3 were vandalised). Also football takes over at the weekend from Golf until May when Golf will take over from Football - can't really get away with playing both football and golf each weekend. I will still play the odd game with mates though depending on weather.

I'm with Homer on this one! Whilst accepting our place stands up well all year round (no temps for a start), I still play 52 weeks of the year.

It was only the snow last winter that kept me off the course.

Our place has singles on every sunday and an open every wednesday and have just signed up to play in another society(ish) over the winter. The only thing that will stop me is gale force winds or frost/snow. I suppose it is the benefits of playing on a links course.

I am pleased to say I went back on my word. I was going to hang the boots up 4 weeks ago because of leaves and the greens, I didn't and am pleased to say I have been cut 3 times in a row. I'm waiting on yesterdays result to see how much of a cut I got. I shot 40pts off 2 so well pleased. I will find out later. My aim this year was to try and get down to 1 but it didn't happen. If CSS yesterday was 72 I should be 1.9, so well pleased.
Chuffed to bits with my golf over the last few weeks. I've only been over par once, in 5 rounds, and that was 2 over.
Yesterday round started with a bogie followed with a birdie. I was 2 over after 8 holes, I finished with an eagle at 18th for a 2 under 70.
I spent a few hours on the practice putting green during the week, it really paid off yesterday 25 putts.
Looking forward to seeing what the handicap is sitting at now as yesterday was the last comp of the year. handicaps frozen till next March. So plenty of time to work on things.

It's going to take a very special day to get me out of hibernation this winter.
Dead leaves, wormcasts, casual water, ice, frost, sleet, freezing winds, rock hard greens.......bugger that.
I hate winter golf.

Happy days, down to 1.9, won the gross yesterday. Very happy with form over the last few weeks. Started season of 2.5 so a loss of .6 over the year, roll on March.
