Having full knee replacement surgery in a couple of weeks. Whilst I have arthritis in both knees the right is worse.

I picked the date but it meant cancellation of some excellent Opens including Lundin, The New, Glenbervie, Irvine and Silloth to name a few, my choice.

Have been doing the suggested exercises and I understand it will be extremely painful afterwards.

Just wondering whether anybody has had the knee replacement surgery and could offer any help/ recommendations what is best for a swift recovery post operation?

Many thanks

Not had one but a few friends have.

Keep your muscles strong from before the operation.
Keep going with the physio and conditioning and it will be sore for quite a while.

I fully recommend paying for some private physiotherapy to go along side the exercises they suggest

When I had my ACL replacement in my 20s I went to see a physio and he really helped me get it back to strong

Are you saying have some private physio after the op? How many would you recommend?

Hard to say how many to recommend tbh , I let my physio decide when he thinks right you don't need my help anymore just do the exercises but he pushed my knee through the barrier that I wouldn't have myself

GIven him so much business over the years we now golf together lol

Id say go see one after a few weeks when you have movement ready and they are telling you to exercise. Just to assist you in the recovery..

Used to get some on the NHS, then it became groups now it's just printed exercises .. Shame but if you can afford it I find it very useful

My mate an ex Irish international footballer was struggling with his knee playing golf he’s a very good player.

Had his knee done and it’s like a miracle.
He’s down to 2 hcap as he said “ it’s the first time I have been pain free for years”

But he also said “ do your rehab “
Try your best to keep fit and lose any extra weight before the op

But as above a good Phisio will help your recovery faster than you can do yourself.!
