Played here this week on our group outing.

on the face of it 5500 off the whites looked llike a short treelined parkland course, but underestimate it at your peril. There are only 7 holes over 360 and only 1 over 400, so driver isn't needed, unless you are very straight off the tee. The greens were all like upturned saucers and a couple more like a upturned soup bowls, and pretty firm. So getting yourself an uphill putt was pref, anything down hill was almost unstopable, a few very tight pin positions and a few of the guys an a few 3 and 4 putts. Course was in excellent condition esp the fairways i don't think i saw a single divot apart from on a couple of the tee's. nice friendly clubhouse. We had the course to ourselves.

Would play it again if i got the chance, highly recommended(y)

I've played with a couple of members from Kirriemuir when on Harris and their comments encouraged me to go and have a look last time I was in the area. Unfortunately, I didn't have the time to play but took a quick look around the course and it is one I have to get back to and play. It does look very tight and everyone I spoke to was welcoming - as you say.
Your comments just reinforce that idea to get there and play. Thanks for the review.
