So a man who tried to deceive the tax man has been recognised in the honours list !
I know he was found not guilty, courtesy of the diddy men on jury duty, but come on. His defence was that he didn't trust/know how banks operated, so stashed the cash 💰 under the floorboards 😳😳

We give them to people who live in tax havens, to those who stash money abroad or in questionable schemes so why not Doddy. I've put the boot into this system on the main thread so it's clear where my views lie. Scrap it. (Incidentally Doddy is brilliantly funny and that is far more important than being knighted)
 
Well Posh Spice got an OBE for services to the fashion industry, a surly talentless woman who with her dense husband epitomises all that's wrong with celebrity culture and excesses of money.
She never smiles and by the look of her never eats anything either so all that her 'services to fashion' will do is increase eating disorders in girls - it's an utter joke. Sickening actually.

Absolutely. Even his comments made me laugh, the man is a comic genius and has probably waited 20 years too long for this......served his time IMHO and richly deserved.
 
I saw Doddy live shortly after his trial. He had about 20 minutes of material relating to the tax man and himself. Wonderfully funny, I was in pain as there was no let up. One gag after another. Highly recommended.

best comic this country has turned out for years ,always funny and gives the audience what they want .
my parents went to see him and he stayed on till well past one in the morning ,he started at nine pm .he does this in nearly all his shows .cant say i have ever heard of any other act doing anythiny vaguely similar.
he is on tv tonight telling his own story ,should be well worth watching methinks.:thup:

Why pick on Ken Dodd? Sir Rod Stewart; left the UK years ago to avoid taxes before returning, Sir Elton John; allegedly dabbled with a number of non-prescription pharmaceuticals, Sir Philip Green; allegedly borrowing the pension fund; the list is probably endless. If you need to be whiter than white then the postman will be taking a lot of gongs back to Buck House.

Incidentally I did like Ken Dodd's comment on the Falklands War; "I knew it was serious……… I walked past Vera Lynn's house & I could hear her gargling."
 
If you ever want to nail this debate, incidentally I'll give you Shirley Bassey and Mick Jagger as two other tax haven people who were knighted recently, then I'll give you two words.......

You are well off the mark there.

Out of all the crappy/no talent celebrities we have nowadays, both David and Victoria were leaders in their respective fields at the height of their careers.

And the biggest eating disorder? Eating too much.

Whilst she doesn't seem the happiest of souls and her music career after the group wasn't the greatest - she has made a success out of fashion. The sickening thing is attempting to connect her to eating disorders because she designs clothes ?!? Is it just her or is it all clothes designers !

What an extremely poor comment.
 
so posh spice is doing ok at fashion ,hmmmm methinks a tad differently,she had David bail her out with a few million a couple of years back ,and she hasnt had her books written off for three years .
not that any of that should count against her personally.
she was part of the biggest girl band the world is likely to see and for all we know does donate shed loads to charity .we only get what the media spout ,unless you know her personally and can say otherwise.
in my eyes no celeb or sportsperson should be given top honours ,for what they have been doing as a job . its the little man that works tirelessly for the good of others who should be festooned with a medal .
 
With all these people, they didn't nominate themselves, blame the game, not the player.
 
Who decides who's talentless or dense? Pretty sure Posh Spice was good enough to be part of a well known pop group. There's rumours Beckham might have been good enough to be England captain. And I'm fairly sure that Dodd's longevity in a fickle industry might mean he's got a rough idea what to do when on stage.

Mind you, that Albert Einstein was a lousy footballer, and Christiaan Barnard wasn't to be trusted in the kitchen.

Quite why the deputy private secretary to the principal private secretary in the Treasury is worth an OBE is beyond me. And why the list runs to 100+ pages... But leaders in their respective fields, why not.

In the US it might be a presidential medal of honour, and over here it's the honours list. What harm does it do to honour the right people?
 
Why is anyone concerned who these gongs are handed too, I don't see why Ken Dodd shouldn't get one when someone who's been, say an MP for 20 years does?

I saw Ken Dodd about 15 years ago and he was so so funny and I'd have given him a Knighthood that evening simply for making my mum so very happy after years of her wanting to see him live
