I just had my driver fitting for a Cleveland custom classic and now I understand what all the hype is about. The way that most of us just pick a driver of the shelf and get on with it just seems lucky after the intense fitting I just had.
You get BIG choice of different shafts with different flex, weight, kick points and different brands. You can change the club head loft and weight and face angle also have a wide range of grips to pick from.
I tested out multiple shafts and lofts and ended up with a 9 degree loft head and a stiff shaft with a low kick point ( I can't remember the exact specs of the shaft but I will get a copy)
My old driver a Taylormade r11 set closed at 11 degrees with a stock RBZ stiff shaft and I got a 14 degree launch angle and 3600 spin, now my fitter who is also my pro said he wanted to see it at 12 degrees with around 2500 spin and after 1 hour of testing I ended up with 11 degrees and 2600 spin which is a huge difference especially the difference of ball flight. My main problem with the r11 was the huge height and unable to control it in a slight breeze was very frustrating.
I was swinging the cleveland 4 mph slower but got the ball speed within 1 mph different with an average distance of 280-290, 260 carry average.
This is a great club with a classic look that has massive rave reviews and comes at a steal for £240 with free custom fitting. The shaft I have picked sells for $240 separately so in my eyes a great bargain.
I honestly can't recommend getting a custom fitting for your big stick and when I get the money I will be getting a iron fitting.
