Joining a club on my lonesome

Dont be put off as your membership money is as good as the rest of them, remember that !

Walk if you feel intimidated of doesnt feel right, you must enjoy going to the club and you must get a regular game.

My previous club had so many competitions at the weekend that social golf was a non starter so i left

My current club ( better people, course not as nice ) have swindle comps every weekend so you get a game when you just turn up

As mentioned they are a friendly comp, no official HCP needed and for a few pounds ( ours is £3 ) you get a fun game of golf and the chance to win some money from the pot.

Please be careful if the club has a joining fee, once they hook you and you have paid its too late to find out the place stinks !

I know it can appear scary joining on your own, go to the Pro shop at the club and have a chat and as i suggested ask for a free trial game, most places will oblige but might be mid week when quiet

I have played at many clubs, member at 4 in total but its my current club that has the best people and most friendly, we all enjoy the game but do not take things too serious i.e more relaxed attitude which many clubs do not offer.

I think many clubs are still working on old out of date attitudes towards new golfers and this can put many new folk off the game, beware the small percentage of club ettiquette police who seem to spend their lives at the club moaning about everything and waiting to pull somebody up on a minor breach !!

Good luck

ChrisD tell me what it's like at Ashford before I post this form today! I love the course anyway but do want to play in both friendly comps and serious ones!

That's exactly what I was thinking. Guess I'll have to pluck up some courage and go through and check the place out.

send him an email and arrange a trial game theres a good chance he'll knock the green fee off the cost of membership or even give you a freebie. You get to check the course and clubhouse out meet the nice secretary all before you invest your cash.

You'll have no problems. You're the sort of guy who will sort out a game as you won't be afraid to get involved. There are swindles on Saturdays and Sundays and a fair few comps on Sundays that you would need to get an active handicap for but 3 cards in will take care of that. If you want I can try and help you get cards done but you'll have to sort that out as to when you can play. Just give me a phone at home when you want.

I usually play Sunday mornings and their are a fair few comps coming up but on days where therer isn't one I usually do a 4bbb friendly and I can try and sort out a partner for you and then you will start to get to know a few other guys. Barthy also plays with a different mix and will do the same for you I've no doubt.

Much of the above depends on which days and times you want to play. I usually go out around 8am'ish on Sundays and play most Wednesday afternoons after about 12.30

So send in the form, you've bandited me there before, so you know the course and you'll love it!
