Jim furyk

Once the ball has been put back down that should be it. Putting the putter behind the ball and then checking alignment again and again is a joke. It don't work as he keeps missing.

Got his comeuppance to an extent taking his time over the putt on 18 and then the hooter goes.

I like Jim and he looks like a top bloke but not a fan of this recent trait that's crept into his game.

Agree with Srixon, it's been something I think should have been brought in ages ago to deal with slow play. Once you have put your ball back on the ground, you must remove your marker and not replace it until you've taken another stroke. A bit like chess. For all the good drawing a line on your ball does for some people, it's been detrimental to the overall pace of play for most golfers.

would you not think that that would cause more slow play for those who do use a line/logo to line up. They would be extra careful and take there time before letting go?

No, as they'd only be taking their time once as opposed on four or five different visits to the ball. If anything, I think it would cause people to stop using a line as it would be harder to get right first time.

I dunno, If you were going to bring in any sort of rule on that, it would have to be clear and saying that you can only replace once is relatively clear. Trying to do it on time doesn't work as realistically amateurs aren't gonna be stood there with a stopwatch running.

It's funny though. When I was growing up, some of the best putters in the club were juniors as they had a sort of 'fearlessness' on all shots. They didn't line it up quite as much on the greens and just hit positive putts which more often than not went in. I played in a match the other day with a 14 year old from my club against two blokes and the young lad was by far and away the longest lining his ball up on every green and arguably the worst of the four of us with the flatstick.

Not sure we need a new 'rule' here though as there are many forms of slow play and to legislate against them all individually would be impossible. If his putting is delaying the overall pace of play, as suggested here, then there are already measures available to the officials, they just need to get them out a bit more often imho!

My 2c!

I don't see how positivity and fearlessness had anything to do with lining the ball up? I line the ball up, I'm positive and I play quickly.

Surely we don't need new rules...we just people need to stop farting about, wherever they are on the course.
