Just seen this clip of Jason talking to David Feherty. Very interesting. Talks about his work ethic and his practice schedule, saying he works 5.5 to 6 hours a day on his game, how he hates it, but has to do it to maintain his level. I think a lot of amateurs have this rose-tinted idea of what it'd be like to be a professional golfer and being able to play golf every day, but I'm sure after a few weeks, doing that amount of practice must be incredibly grinding and difficult to stay motivated. Normally we hear professional sportsmen saying they "embrace the grind" and love the hard work, so it's interesting to see the World #1 be honest and admit that he doesn't enjoy the weekly slog.

Keen to watch the full interview, hopefully it'll pop up online soon. The clips I've seen have been great.

5.5 to 6 hours per day..... he'll only hit about 20 shots in that time judging by his pre-shot routine.

Watching him over the last couple of weeks has really turned me off him.

Think how many Brandt Snedecker must hit in the same time? Brandt must only practise irons/woods for a couple of hours a day as otherwise he would wear the gear out too quickly.

I understand why he needs to practice as all top professionals do! He just needs to speed up. Put the clock on him and he will speed up.:D

He was painfully slow at the Dell last week....but that short game!

Agree that it won't affect his game if he were to speed up - if that's what you mean also.

Yeah I feel exactly like this. I ended up turning the final off due his slow play and I'm starting to go off him as a player too.

I doubt he'll ever get warned or penalised for it though. For some reason the PGA don't seem bothered.

Well if he hates it that much he should of told me last year and I could of got him a visit down the pit. I would of introduced him to my pals who wake up coughing there pube hairs up every morning due to dust. I could of shown him men who he could talk to but he would have to shout coz there deaf as a post. I could of shown him all the lads who love playing golf but have had both knees and hips replaced but love the game, so they use "madges scooter off Benidorm". The same lads who struggle to hold a club coz they have vibration white finger. But they had to do it to put a crust on the table. Don't know of any amateurs who look upon Colliers with rose tinted glasses.
Watched Heir hunters last week and a guy who had died played for WBA in the FA cup final back In the day 1950's I think. He had to work his night shift in the factory before he could go down to London. It was said would Rooney do the same today summed it up perfectly for me.
Mr Day needs to walk in joe publics shoes for a day to get some perspective.

I'm pretty sure Day knows how priviledged he is to be able to use his talent - and hard work - to achieve what he does. That shouldn't stop him from declaring that he 'hates' the grind of practice!

Btw. You forgot to mention 'black lung' - and probably a host of other conditions directly attributable to working in the pits! The mines in NZ were just as bad as those in UK according to my, Miner's wife, Gran!

Im not saying what you are pointing out isn't true... but he did not come from money or even a model family, he's had to work for every little thing his success has granted him. Maybe he's not quite the person to judge on work ethic when you find out a bit more about his past.

Good interview, it's nice to see a top class sportsman being down to earth and honest. It's a refreshing change. He's gone up in my estimation there..

I was going to go on and on, but I was even boring myself.😁 The thing is I actually like Jason Day and the fact he was overlooked by media hype for the big two endeared me even more to him. That aside it may well be boring to do the same day in day out, but most folks jobs are like that.

They certainly do but not with squillions in the bank. The thing is as well his training regime is paying dividends. The only thing I would be moaning about if I was him is how much it would be costing me in silver polish. 👍🏌🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆

i don't think the cash side of things should come into it just because he is getting paid a shed load doesn't mean he should like every part of his job. I think he understands the huge benefits of grafting everyday on his game he plan and simply doesn't like it though.
