The early chapters of Moonraker effectively spell it out, that 00 agents were killers not spies.
I've enjoyed all the Bonds except Daniel Craig. I've only seen his first two films but they were both awful. Not risked another one. The actor himself was charmless and dreary and the scripts were as dull as ditch water.
Connery was a classic, of course, Lazenby was better than he might have been but the film was maybe a little too dark, for the time, I enjoyed the silliness when Roger Mortis set in and the change of pace back to seriousness when Timothy Dalton took over. Pierce Brosnan seemed to combine bits of all who went before him and had the personality to carry it off when the films went a bit bonkers.
Next up, I'd like the films go back to the source material and set in the appropriate time period. Dout it'll happen though.
