Which is quite odd really as I really do like sci-fi and fantasy movies. I've seen Lord of the Rings & Hobbit trilogies, all Star Trek, Close Encounters etc. but none of the Star Wars series.

Now given there has been the original and then a slew of sequels and prequels (awful word- yuk!!) just say I did want to watch them, then is there an order in which I should do so?

I would watch them in the order they were made.
So. 4,5,6 then 1,2,3.

If you watch them in numerical order then it will take away the interest on how darth vadar was created.

Oh, do yourself a favour and watch it with no female's around. They'll start saying 20 minutes in
"i dont get it" and you'll miss the story line as your explaining "light sabers are not real sweetheart!!!!!! "

Since everyone knows that Darth Vader was Anakin Skywalker (who was Luke and Leias dad) then I'd watch them in numerical order, there's no mystery surrounding Vader nowadays. 😃

Don't bother with 1,2,3. They're rubbish

Which is why, I suspect, current series is returning to the 'values' of the original trilogy...

Hopefully the franchise can go from strength to strength as it is providing much needed employment in the sector I work in... Not fussed for myself but good for the younger ones working their way thru' life...

Remember seeing the first one at the cinema in 78. Such an epic experience when blockbuster films were a new thing.

I actually do not mind 2 out of the 3 prequel films and actually quite like the third one.

They didn't appeal to me when they first came out, but I did get into them later, unfortunately I watched them when being repeated out of order and it really messed with the story line, so I watched them properly back to back and can't fault them.

I have heard that the order to do is this:

Ep4 a new hope
Ep5 empire
Ep2 attack of the clones
Ep3 revenge of the sith
Ep6 Jedi

Pretend ep1 never happened.

I watched them in the order they were made, but this kinda makes sense. You go up to the big reveal about vadar, then back in time for his back story, then fast forward to Luke fulfilling his destiny.

Personal pref would be 456123

You can do 123456 or 456123 it doesn't really matter to the overall story as long as you understand the events in 123 happened before those in 456, the important thing is get them watched before December!

I think a big part of the love people have for Star Wars is pure nostalgia. I vaguely remember queuing to see it first time round and I still remember seeing Empire Strikes Back the first time out.

So I was caught up in the excitement when the second trilogy came out and went to see them but it wasn't the same. I actually quite like much of "The Phantom Menace" - definitely the best lightsabre fight in the entire series (a man explained that to me). But to be honest, they are bad films living off the memory of the first three (well, first two really).

My guess is that if, as an adult, I now saw Star Wars for the first time I'd think it was OK but it wouldn't have anything like the impact it had originally.

Probably the thing people who haven't seen Star Wars most miss out on is the 100s of pop culture references that crop up in other films and programmes. I'm always having to explain to HID why I'm laughing at something (usually in family guy).
