Went to speak to the pro today to make sure on filling the cards in correctly for me dads handicap. Got speaking to him on what i was shooting round and also last time i played in a qualifer which was where i used to play. I seem to score better here and he has said if i want they will review my handicap for me.

Im stuck between doing this or not. I am thinking yes because i want it low as i can, yet also no as i dont want to come last which happened in my first 2 comps, and would like to work it down properly yet also run the risk of being called a bandit. I did my h/c whilst i was still learning and shanking more than i was hitting straight.
I dont think it would drop much maybe by about 3 strokes but this would deff make a difference when in stableford. my best round where i play now is -4 after my handicap is taken off or equates to 40pts.

Proper qualifiers are over now till march about time he said although they are still doing weekend comps etc.

he doesnt do it he said a guy calls paul does handicaps but will review mine if i want it done with the cards i hand in.

i dont know how they do it or how they work it out.

They can do it in the clubs annual handicap review. The idea is to make (small) adjustments, up and down, to players who clearly arnt playing to their officail handicap. This can take in players who are unaable to play to their h/cap due to illness etc or someone who's reputation is that they regularly play better in non qualifiers etc

I hope you get whatever you want
Chris

well just searched online and found a calculator think its going to drop me 2 strokes so for the sake of it i will just keep what i got and just start playing in comps more next year as not played in one since may time.

nothing iffy about it tomtom i was going to hand in my cards and they was going to look at them.

Ive never played in any comps here as since changing clubs my old man who is now my main playing partner doesnt have a h/c and i didnt know anyone to play with.

my current is 27.1 so im not exactly setting the world alight with my golfing abbilities. But i feel personally i am better than this and my current round scores seem to show this also as i am hitting sub 100s last few times i been out. It nothing certain it was just mentioned during a convo as i said i havent played in a qualifier in a while and was told i could get mine reevaluated if i wanted.

You'd better watch that you don't end up with a 'starred' handicap if you've not played in three qualifying comps this year. You'd then need to play in the prescribed number of qualifiers before the handicap becomes 'live' or 'unstarred' again :)

I think I only played in 2qualifying ones...
What happens when it's starred?

I was laid up for a couple months due to knee surgery and didn't play any golf at all would that get taken into account?

If you have a lapsed handicap you usually have to put a suitable number of qualifiers in. Normally you can play in a medal/stableford and mark a card although you won't be eligible to win the event. Otherwise you can put a supplementary card in as long as you declare your intention before you go out either to the pro or handicap secretary.

Not sure what is going on at my club. I was off 12.8 after the last stableford and got a mail from HDID in the week saying it had gone up to 13.1. No idea why. I e-mailed the club but heard nothing. I know Bash on here is in the same boat and got something like 0.2 back for no reason too. Very strange

Who can I contact to check if it's lapsed? I still got my original CONGU cert. could I email them or anything?

What Homer meant was that your handicap would become "inactive" (not lapsed) if you didn't play in 3 qualifiers in a calendar year. At your club that could mean something or nothing. If you are "inactive", your club has a right to allow you to play in qualifiers but not win prizes or not to allow you to play in specified events. They must, however, give you adequate opportunity to play in qualifiers so that you become "active". Some clubs take no action with "inactive handicaps", presumably to encourage normal participation in competitions rather than putting up a barrier. Remember that there is no limit to the number of Supplementary Scores that you can submit, always remembering that you must notify your intention in advance of playing.

"Starred" does not apply in England, only choochters and further North.

ive just hecked the club i used to play ats h/c list and i got an i next to my name so yeah its now innactive. wish i knew this rule before as i would of played in a few more had i known.
im will speak to them when im next go in for a round and see what they say.

does this mean i cant sign my dads cards for him?

Pretty sure providing you are member of the club there isn't an issue marking a card for someone even if your handicap is lapsed. It would only be an issue if you and your dad wanted to play together in a pairs event
