We've had more snow up here than in most places & didn't think any courses would be fit to play yet. I am not a member of a course, but looked at Longhirst (lovely Florida style course near Morpeth, north of Newcastle - i.e. lots of natural water features as well as the melted snow!)on-line booking, and noticed a few must have been playing today, so phoned up to make sure I wasn't hallucinating.

It is open, and mostly normal greens, so early night tonight & early start, and back for the main event at 2pm (youngest daughter's nativity play :))

Will be great to get out again after 26 days of heartbreak lol

How did the first time back feel for you?

Yep we travelled to seaton carew yesterday which was in great condition and very firm under ground. I played the worst I've ever played though.

It looks like most of the links courses are now open. Longhirst always clears as quick as a links course as it's so open with very few trees to protect it from the wind. A very good course for the price.

GG - its a good track like, but as u said Longhirst is a totally different kettle of fish. Played about 6 years ago and it was a monster, wud love to do it again, il have to have another look up someday. I recomend beamish aswel

Yes I like Beamish Golfstick, lots of other great courses too round here - Tyneside (Ryton), Whickham, Woodham, Ramside, Slaley, Matfen, Linden, Whitley Bay, Close House, and a new course Sharpley (between Houghton and Seaham) is very nice and has great drainage, so great for summer greens all year long.

* I'm sure there are lots of other great NE courses that I have not mentioned or not played :)

Just back. The green keeper was telling me that there was a foot of snow last Friday and he thought it would take a week to clear, but the rain came down so it was open on Sunday morning.

Course in pretty good nick considering recent weather. Only a handful of temp greens on. Cold wind & rain added to the fun! My golf was so-so, but good to be out there again after 26 days. Worth it for my 31st birdie of the year! :)

I didn't think there was that many of us from the north east area on here. Never played longhirst as yet but might give it a go if it's open.

£15 during the week Richy, well worth it. Only a handful of temp greens on, and only 1 tee significantly forward. Where do you live?

GS - yes Seaham & Whitburn are both very nice; very exposed and cold too now though i bet (as everywhere is!!)

I live in newcastle. Just looked at the weather and it's snow from Thursday so not looking good :(

Was supposed to be in Matfen 4 ball winter open on Thursday, but confirmation that it was off (no doubt due to forecast). Pleased I played today for 49th round of the year
