I've heard this saying more than any other since I took up golf 4 and a bit months ago and today I fully understand
stand why.

Played 9 holes this moring and after working on my full swing for the last few weeks i had high hopes. But after some good tee and approach shots I was serioulsy let down my short game.

Birdie chances turned into bogies
par chances turned into double bogies

my understand of the game improved drastically today and that came from going out there and hacking it up. Lesson well and truley learnt, the driving range can help but its getting out on the course is what matters.

At least now I have some kind of full swing I can start focusing on the area that really gets your scores down.

Good lad its all about getting he ball in the hole

Doesn't matter how straight and long you are if you cant chip and putt you will never be a good golfer and you will never win anything.

That's not strictly true (sadly). I know lots of guys with no short game at all who play off "generous" h'caps and suddenly they have a bit of good form around the greens and consign us mid-h'caps to the "no chance" zone.

:D

I do agree with you though, you'll never be good golfer until you can chip n pitch n putt. :)
