Single players do have standing (in the rules a group has standing, and a group can be 1, 2, 3, or 4 players), unless your club specifically has a local rule about it. Some clubs still do.

It's not a 'rule', comes under etiquette and it's in the current rule book (so at least since 2008).
It redefined a 'group' to include one but committees make the decision whether to give equal status to singletons not the R&A (same as GPS in comps).
Problem 2 is that many (most?) of those who don't/won't give way have either never had a rule book or if they do, its out of date.

It was changed a couple of years ago and I think it now says “consideration should be given to all players and groups can consist of one or more players†or something like that.
Mind you, you still old duffers telling you you have no standing on the course. Got our club to put a big notice up about it.

To be honest most of the women should pay more for being such stuck up arrogant awful rubbish-at-it cows on the golf course.
I think what one should pay is the decided by your behavior on the course!

I have no issues with the Ladies at my course, other than that their changing room could be put to better use.
They have pretty equal rights on the course in terms of tee times, most seem civil enough (they can be a bit tetchy about rules though, even when they are wrong), don't hold up play, etc. Same with our seniors and juniors.
I have no idea what they pay, but I would guess it is similar, if not identical. May be less, as if the men have a medal, the course is closed for ladies, where as if they have one, the tee can reopen afterwards.
A good question would be, why do a married couple pay less than the mens and ladies fees added together? Why get a discount?

Damn. I've been found out. I'm surprised that anyone on this Forum would invite me to play with them as I must be so slow, tightfisted never buying a round after a game, unsupportive to the club and pro, etc.
Of course, you have never had a 4/4.5/5 hour round where the people in front are not of pensionable age.
Yes, I am a full 7 day member paying the same as anyone else. You, and others who begrudge the fact that retirees can play whenever they want during the week are looking at it from the wrong perspective. The option is there for any 7 day member to play as often as they like. It's not the club's problem or the fault of the Vets if some of those people can't take advantage of it. Without the income from the older members, most clubs would struggle financially and annual subs from other members would have to increase.
Yes, we have a £200 bar card levy that I have already topped up twice this year.
Yes, I do play during the week and sometimes at weekends. If the Vets at our club didn't play during the week then the courses would be virtually empty.
Yes, I do have an account in the Pro shop.
I assume that you won't be wanting an invitation to play at Sundridge Park on ANY day of the week then as it is full of Vets.
Back to the OP, against their better judgement, the ladies voted for equal rights which they have now got. Same joining fee, same subs. The only extra cost to the club was to make changing facilities available within the clubhouse rather than their previous shed.

Ladies play Thursday, with the course open to men for 2 slots in the day. They have no vote but ay much lesser subs.

The seniors do all the organising at my club. Without them we'd have no comps, etc.
Plus, we take the mick out of them for being old/smelling of wee/playing PING, etc..

About 6 weeks ago I was stood on the tee of our 13th about to tee off (stood over the ball ready to swing) when 100yards infront of me a middle aged female member just walked across our fairway to retrieve her ball. I stood back and 'attracted her attention' and she just ignored me!
Funny thing is I have to pass her and her partners on my way over the bridge to my fairway so she had to pass me. I stopped the group on the bridge and asked if they were aware of what she had done.
All I will say is they were rude and ignorant and so far up their own arse it's untrue.
I might of said a few harsh words back to be fair.
Something along the lines of "typical stuck up bitches thinking you own the course with complete disregard for everyone else. Learn the [****] rules before playing a MAN'S game!"

One of the best fellas I have ever shared a round of golf with and if I was told I could have a 4-ball anywhere and take 3 people with me, he would be one of them. A true gent and someone to look up to for me as a young(ish) gun of the game.

It is only a matter of ten years or so since one of my old clubs, Wimbledon Common actually allowed women members. Before that there was no provision for them to play other than changing in the ladies loo and paying a green fee.
A lot of our women members are actually pretty good at letting others through and recognise their limitations golfing wise. Unfortunately the same can't be said of SOME of our seniors. Again a large majority are pretty good but there are one or two little cliques that will not let you pass while they have a breath left in their body. If you get stuck behind them either as a single or in a 2/3/4 they will still not recognise you as playing faster and stand aside. They won't change and so either accept it will be a slow round or nine depending on when you catch them and let it go.
As for not using the facilities, I think a lot do come in for tea & toas or a few 1/2 pints of beer and very few drive straight home. Granted they aren't spending fortunes but every penny helps. As for buying stuff in the pro shop, most won't use premium balls, won't buy the trendy shirts in stock and so have little or no need to use it

The seniors where I am are not too bad to be fair. They all spend in the clubhouse and will let you through if required.
That's if you can get a tee time to play when they do.

You'll appreciate I'm coming at this from a different angle, but glad to see one or two of you men feel able to put up with us wimmin on the course. I assume if more of us looked like Ms Creamer or Gulbis there might be less of a problem, but 'fraid I can't help out there.
ANYWAY I don't think our club is sexist in any respect, but it's not just about money. Most clubs around our way have equal subs, but women are not always welcomed particularly warmly. Lots of clubs only have women's comps or 'ladies days' in the weeek, which as someone said isn't much use if you're at work, or they 'bump' ladies events if there's a men's comp on.
As we have 2 courses none of this happens, and relations between men and ladies are pretty good. We don't hog tee times if only a few are playing (pro shop is kept informed of numbers) but expect to be let through if for instance we are in a two-ball wiith four-ball in front. We don't complain (much) about going on the 'b' course if men's comp is on the other. There are also lots of mixed comps which are popular.
I wonder if bad behaviour from ladies is because they feel hard done by in some way (eg 'we can only get on on a Wednesday so we'll make the most of it') But it I don't think I need to defend eejits if that's what they are.

Mine does, and I can't quite get my head round it. Especally if the club aren't short of members (we still have a waiting list).
