Is your club sexist?

Eh, they don't pay the same and I don't think they should because they don't have the same access to the course as the male membership do. We haveevery Saturday of the season so can't complain if the fairer sex pay less. My gripe is older male members who play every day and clog up the medals and pay 1/3 of what the rest of us do.

Yes, the ladies are Ordinary members the same as the gents. They pay the same and have no restrictions on their playing rights. It's been like that for the past 10 years or so and it hasn't been a problem.

With more and more of the younger lady golfers working then they need to be able to play their golf when it suits them, not like the old days when ladies only had certain tee allocations.

We even allow ladies competitions to be held on a saturday morning ! ;)

Me too about the seniors.

At my home club they have comps on Tues and Thurs mornings and on those days the course in a no go till 3pm. Then the buggers all play at the weekend too and never let anyone though.

And pay much less!

The ladies are fine, always let you though and usually only get sunday 10-12 to play, don't have a problem with them paying less.

Im glad some people have the same opinion about the seniors. Their always the worst for slow play and not letting any one through (its their course, they own it), they play around 3 or 4 times the amount of golf that other members play and pay over half of what a normal member does.

What also grips me with this is you rarely see a senior spend money with the club in any other area

Balls, nope they find them.
Breakfast, nope they have that before they leave
Lunch, nope her the wife has that waiting for them when they get in
Pro shop, nope they play with the stick they have when they won the war

they put the least into the club, invest the least, yet take the most.

Oh and they dont replace their dam divots!!!!!

Rant over.

They pay the same and don't have any restrictions which is fine. Our club is pretty much "self policed" with tee off times, various groups have unofficial bookings. The majority know that x group plays at such & such a time so avoids turning up and expecting to play.

The only thing that gripes with the ladies is that they have a comp on Saturday mornings. They reserve the tee for up to an hour. But the groups won't all go off straight after each other, they all hang around and their final group will go off right at the end of their tee slot time.

Some days there are as few as 6 in their comp, and still they use up the full 1/2 an hour they have the tee for.

Interesting comments about the seniors and their lack of input into a club. We have reduced fees for seniors, but only if they've been a member for 20 or 25 years and are over a certain age. If they don't meet the criteria then it's full whack !

Had a few run-ins with snotty-nosed lady members at Gillingham (who paid less than gents) and they were right pains in the backsides.

The worse ones were the kept ladies of the few millionaires at the club, these ladies were so lodged up their own arses they were licking the backs of their own teeth.

I had one snotty cow ask me to remove myself from the 1st tee and allow 3 ladies 4-balls through because I was a single player or so she thought. I turned around and said "no Im alright flower" and she got all huffy and said "im going to report you to martin (the pro), whats your name"

I then said "off you trot then, theres a good lass, mind you we will have tee'd off by then" and pointed to the 3 mates of mine sat on the bench ajacent to the tee waiting to go off with me.

We all fell about laughing, she looked like she had just swallowed a wasps nest and huffed off with her chums to have a whinge about my lack of respect and manners.

DCB, im totally behind the loyalty if they have been long standing members. It just makes me laugh even at pay and play courses some of the seniour players attitudes are amazing.

I played the oaks at purley a few months back, we went off the first at 8.55 and by the time we had played the first (par 3) and tee's off the second as a 2 ball in a buggey we had cought up with the 4 ball in front.

The marshall was on the course and after a chat with them come to us and says word for word " dont worry lads, i know their playing a medal but there isnt anyone in front of them and ive told them to let you through at the earliest time possible so you can get a move on "

we processeded to sit behind these on every shot for the next 10 holes watching very hacker style golf from a 4 ball with no sign of a wave through, it got that bad that around the 15th 2 older ladies behind met us on the tee and said " whats keeping you".. it turns out two seniour ladies walking with trolleys had gone off an hour later and cought up with us by the 15th and we were playing pretty quick consistant golf in a buggey.

When we got in one of the guys from the group in front says " that was a long round wasnt it " and laughs....

Don't replace divots

My interpretation is:

Balls: They dont hit it far enough to loose it nor hard enough to scuff it up.

Breakfast: Yip, at 04:30 due to being ex military

Lunch: A wee slice of wholemeal bread and half a banana which the club dont do.

New Gear: They wear the Stay Press slacks they got at Christmas .. yeh 1972 !!!!!

Pro shop: Oh, the starters hut .... all the stuff in there is 6 weeks pension money.

Divots .... sorry, can'y bend down !!!!! And they haven't invented a divot sucker thingymajig that fits onto the end of your grip.

NOW the rant is over ;)

madandra, looks like you have our members there too.

The other funny one is bunker rakes... "Phaaaa" rake teh bunker with the back side of the sand iron... that will do.

Buggers!

What a load of tosh. The only thing that stands true at my club, is that they play a lot more than those of us that work. When I retire, I hope I can play 3-4 times a week, and enjoy my retirement.

Most of our seniors are reasonably quick players, they do know course etiquette and are often seen spending in the club house. I think it's narrow minded to think all seniors act as you have described, as your description can be pinned on golfers of all ages.

Back to the OP, our ladies pay the same membership as the men. They have their comps on a Tuesday, men's are on a Saturday, and in between that man and ladies have the same rights on the course.

......Of course I'm sure we are all aware that gender has little to do with attitude, or age for that matter.

There are plenty of people of all ages and gender who are entirely thoughtful, respectable members and some that are not...in equal portions too I would imagine.

Am I wrong?

Our club is sexist. The women get slightly cheaper rates and have the same amount of locker room space for only 10% of the people.

They also get to play an easier course!

Does Gillingham have a local rule that single players have no standing? Even if you were on your own she surely had no right to say that. I wonder who will be out of the way quickest - three 4balls or 1 player.

Cracking comeback to the lady in question by the way - A*

Our female members pay less, have an easier course (2 holes are par 5 for them and par 4 for men) plus they have the course to themselves one morning a week plus their own comps at weekends.

Just for an example, last Sunday was their club championship, course was shut for 2 2 hour slots and only 12 of them entered. They set the rules for their club comp and set it at 36 holes then all bar 12 of them stated that they could not cope with that in a day.

Yes it does and it really, really used to pee me off and was one of my main reasons for jacking in there.

If I got off early I would shoot up there to play a few holes on my own and time and time again I had to wait to go off or if I was fast and asked to play through I got told "single players have no standing"

Happened one day where I was following a ladies 2-ball. I was on the 2nd tee at the same time as them and said "do you mind if I play through quickly" and they said no for the above reason. I advised them that I could drive the green and would be out of site and they still said no and quoted the rules.

Anyhow I cut accross to the 3rd and carried on. By the time I was on the 10th they were only on the 5th. I turned around and said "hope I didnt slow you down by cutting infront" and trotted off leaving these 2 stuck-up tarts all sour-faced.

classic. Am i right in saying i have heard that there is a propsed change in the rules where single players do have a standing on the course for this reason.
